Record Button not Working

Hey guys,

I have an eletkron Rytm mkII and a friend came over today and was playing around with it and when I went back to it the record button no longer turns “red”, so I cannot record live on the pads, or use the sequencer to put in notes… any ideas on how this may have happened in the settings to get the recording working again? I’m thinking the button possibly went out but it would be very strange for a button to just go out like that? There was no hard use or liquid around it.

The button does when I hold it down and press play keep the Rytm from pressing play so there must be some midi happening?

try to perform the test mode to get a report and check button responsiveness there too - do that ahead of contacting support who will guide you on things to try to establish what’s needed

Thanks for your response, I’ve never done a test mode before how do I do this? I don’t see much info about this online or in the manual other than to try test mode but no description of where to start it in the menu?

Should be in manual, but hold function whilst booting and press the correct option, prob trig 1

Got it - Just tried and it shows 0 errors

It does look like the record key is not responding though in test mode :frowning:

but now try pressing the respective (and other) buttons and trig buttons too - it will test leds and test button response and give some feedback

also disconnect everything from device in case some crazy midi plumbing is at root of this, maybe also try a new project after saving current one

ah okay - my reply took too long - get in touch with support (and your friend) then

Yes will do, thank you! I was with my friend the entire time they were using it and nothing was done out of the ordinary! Very strange how this randomly happened… I did get this serviced by Elektron a few years back and took it in twice after they failed to actually screw in all of the things correctly… thinking maybe one was still loose and here we are as I can hear something rattling around inside the unit that I never heard before >_<

support may guide you to remove the button cap and see if teh underlying switch has perished, it may be debris from that which has dislodged or something trapped in the switch housing which may be something that can be removed (or cleaned if crumbs etc) - may not need return to base

Did you ever figure out what the issue was? This exact problem just landed on me yesterday.
