Obvious: The Orgship by Solar Quest.
oh, and some of my own, because… why not.
Heard this on the radio once and then sat in the car for 30min to find out what it was. Wonderful.
Awarded the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Music and described by the New Yorker’s Alex Ross as “…the loveliest apocalypse in musical history,” John Luther Adams’ majestic orchestral work Become Ocean is a thrilling exploration of depth, turbulence, eerie silence and ultimately enveloping calm. Performed by the Seattle Symphony under the baton of Ludovic Morlot, the music casts an expressive arc that’s by turns intimate and expansive – an ebbing and flowing sonic journey that finds the composer testing the very limits of his imagination.
I do enjoy this one. Even if Jürgen doesn’t exist, it’s a lovely concept for an album.
So my recommendation is not an example of ambient music, nor is it electronic. In fact, it’s predominantly a post-metal album. But the entire thing is suffused with watery textures and aquatic themes. My pick would be this song:
This one always felt like being deep in an underwater cave to me.
Great thread!
I
everything Stephen Hitchell has done as Variant. Most are more outer space, but this one is his underwater track and it’s perfect!
This one’s glorious too. A lot of her work is manipulated and layered underwater recordings - manipulated just enough to qualify as ambient, I guess (and really really good also, no matter the label) - but this one is my favorite!
dj))water)) is a water-based musician making ambient. the hint is in the name - most of their stuff is v watery in nature
!
The opener on Biosphere’s Autour de la Lune always felt aquatic to me. Perhaps even the whole record, partly influenced by the cover art.
I work at a coffee shop and in the very early AM hours I sometimes throw on Steve Hauschildt. my coworkers endearingly call it “aquarium music”
Brian eno - On land has very nice liquid / bubbly ambiances !
This is just awesome. Thanks!
