+1 for the Deepmind. I’ve got the Deepmind 6 and as a guitarist I really appreciate being able to easily add, stack and reorder the built in effects without using up my pedalboard. On top of that, it’s dead easy to program and there are plenty of good presets out there (particularly with an 80’s nod).
The point about the Isomorphic desktop is interesting too. It did occur to me too, as a guitarist, I really like the Hydrasynth Desktop with the poly-aftertouch. And the UI is great, easy to do simple stuff, but you could still be getting new things out of it in 5-10 years+.
Second-hand prices are good now, with the Explorer out. The Explorer itself is a good option. And of these modern synths, the HS is a better one for Rhodes / EP sounds. Rugged, and not to big for carrying around either. Obviously, an Explorer is good option, if they like keys. I think it’s easily flexible enough to cover EP AND FM AND VA sounds. And, Wavetable is a bonus, if they move on to start doing 90s music later
2 years ago, I’d have said grab a Roland JX-3P, then add a programmer later. But prices caught covid.
+1 for the minilogue…had the xD before and now the OG, both of them are wonderful and focussed instruments.
Are you using the Fret Board to play the Pads?
Yes, because my guitarist brain works easiest in fretboard patterns.
