I’m looking for a MIDI interface that would allow multiple ins via USB with MIDI merge, and an out via MIDI, so I can run a keyboard, a foot pedal, and an iPad all into my Octatrack, the OT into the A4, and then back… It would be great if it could pass power over USB. Does such a thing exist?
I see M Audio has a 2-in box that does MIDI merge and out via USB but I think I want the opposite.
Can’t think of any singular unit with all of the above. You may end up with 2-3 different devices to accomplish this. Perhaps an OPLAB plus midipal or Kenton USB host(s) with 5thru or other merger.
MOTU makes several MIDI interfaces, one of which might do what you want. Some of them have as many as 8 MIDI inputs and outputs, and it is possible to route the inputs to the outputs arbitrarily, including merging. One model (MIDI Express XT) is capable of doing so even when it is not connected to a computer.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions – the iconnectivity one might be the ticket.
I had another thought, though, which is that maybe I can use a powered USB hub, hook up things to my iPad, and then use my existing MIDIsport to hook up to the OT. I will try that and see if it works before shelling out the $250 for the iconnectivity.
JES-you should be able to do that (using the CCK as well). You will not be able to power the iPad, or route audio in/out (unless you also plug in a class compliant USB mixer/soundcard to the hub).
Accent do you know if midi bridge can be used as a sysex editor/librarian?
I have been looking at the midi tool box app. midi bridge looks like it can do most everything the toolbox can, but better and more. Just not sure if you can edit, store, recall, and send sysex strings with the midi bridge. I might need both. One thing I want to use my ipad for is an easy access drive for my no UW no +drive MD.
I don’t believe you can use it as a SysEx editor/librarian. It’s more like a virtual midi patchbay, allowing you to route amongst your iOS synths and external hardware connections, so you can reroute and filter them as need be.
