Receive half of the MIDI clock?

Having a Digitakt and a Digitone, I’d love to have long evolving patterns on the Digitone and faster glitches on the Digitakt.

I see two options to do so, let’s say I want a track at X=115 BPM:

  • BPM=X/2 on both machines, one clock slave of the other. The inconvenient with this technique is that I loose precision on the Digitakt and less free steps because I have twice more element per bar.
  • BPM=X/2 on Digitone but played at tempo X and BPM=X on the Digitakt. The inconvenient here is that the Digitone isn’t following the Digitakt tempo. Not a problem if the tempo stay the same across the composition.

But I thought that maybe a MIDI clock divider already exists ?

You could change the scale of your pattern on the Digitone.
Press FUNCTION and PAGE for the menu.

On the digitone I play in live mode, step/2 won’t change the length of 4 bars ? You make me doubt now.

If you keep the tempo the same on each machine or sync them with MIDI, and set the scale to 1/2 on the Digitone and 1 on the Digitakt then each step on the Digitone will take twice as long to play as on the Digitakt.
Or you could use 1/4 for 4 times as long.
This should give you the desired results.
