I have been having lots of fun with a small dual digi (digitakt and digitone) setup in the living room. Limiting options (I have a larger basement setup) really works wonders.
I am REALLY missing the combi of eurorack and the digitakt, though, so have been looking at options for adding a smaller eurorack setup to the mix. Have been looking at the Rackbrute 6U for this, but I am not sure if it will fit. Does anyone have experience pairing it with two digi boxes? What I am wondering about is whether it is possible to fit two digis “under” the rackbrute. Is it wide enough? Also, is it possible to setup the rackbrute such that it is near-flush with a wall at the back?
The desk is only 45cm deep so I am (intentionally) a bit limited in how much I can fit.
I don’t have firsthand experience with Rackbrute but I know that it’s 88hp which is 17.6 inches (internal) and it mounts above the Minibrute 2S which is 19 inches wide. Considering the design of the link system mounting bracket it’s safe to assume the outside of the rackbrute cabinet itself is fairly consistent with the 19 inch width of the minibrute 2S.
Meanwhile, Digitakt style devices are 8.5 inches each and with two of them completely touching side by side you could expect 17 inches across (or perhaps a fraction of an inch over that).
Looking at a picture like this, I would imagine that if you intend to try and fit them in the space underneath the enclosure, that it is very likely that they will have sufficient clearance, but since the Rackbrute mounts to Arturia products in a way that elevates the entire enclosure (midway up the synth chassis), when the stand is flat on a tabletop, that the access to anything underneath is going to be severely restricted. First it will be tight for your hands in the area above the digi’s, and then the further back you intend to fit them, the harder it will be to both see and access the displays and encoders.
I can’t find any documentation on the physical height of the link system bracket (the mounting bracket) but someone with a similar issue on modwiggler made some detachable metal feet for positioning the enclosure above a smaller flat 6U.
The concern with something like that project is being able to still fit the width of 2 digi’s recessed underneath (if that’s your goal). To do that, you may need to get shorter bolts and attempt to design the stabilizer feet to sit outside of the link system mount instead of inside as pictured. Remember that at it’s most forgiving there is 1 inch of clearance on either side if the digi’s are literally touching in the middle and also perfectly centered.
Frankly it sounds like some work is involved, it might be usable right out of the box, but I would expect poor visibility and moderate to poor accessibility. Perhaps not impossible to work around but maybe not ideal.
Keep in mind I’m just going off of the specs and looking at the pictures, if what you want is a tight fit then this might do the trick. Good luck.
Wow, thanks for the lengthy reply. I love this forum.
After my post I did the less lazy thing and actually looked a bit closer at the dimensions as well.
It does seem like two boxes should fit quite snugly between the legs of the rackbrute.
My main concern is actually how closely the rackbrute can be placed to a wall at the back of it, since this is the main limitation in this living room setup. I agree with your concerns about placing the elektron boxes too far under the rackbrute, so the further towards the wall I can place the rackbrute the better.
Or maybe I should just NOT enter this slippery slope of adding more stuff to a deliberately limited setup.
For reference, this is the current setup. So much fun to be had with these two (well, three with the Oxi) boxes. I would slip the Oxi into the drawer if I added the rackbrute.

Well, I think that in order to consider this you may need to email Arturia or otherwise locate the exact dimensions front to back of that link system bar/bracket. It looks like balance can be fine-tuned, but there will be a hard restriction in place where that padded back stabilizer bar sits. Knowing the footprint of the lower tri-star mount should help a lot in predicting how well it will fit your actual desk dimensions.
Can you swap out your desk for something that is a little deeper (front to back)?
If you managed to get another 15-20cm of front-to-back depth (roughly… guessing) you’d be able to raise the Rackbrute stand a little (just place it on a bit of timber or even just a couple of thick books) which would ensure the base of the Rackbrute panel and cables was well clear of the controls on the Digi boxes. Having an extra bit of clearance front to back would give you more options to do that. You’d also be able to keep the Oxi out front all the time if you wanted.
I’m a fellow ‘tiny desk’ person (my total space is 90cm wide x 70cm high x 40cm deep so I’ve had to get super creative to cram things in. Lots of gear Tetris.
The desk was bought and placed only about a month ago after some level of persuasion - my wife knows me well enough to be wary of the prospect of me slowly migrating all of the basement gear/synths to our living room.
So buying a deeper one is out of the picture.
I also quite like the limited depth, actually. Gear tetris is a fun challenge. Somehow a perfect arrangement tends to lead to MORE gear rather than removing it, though.
