Qustion about the pads

I read a lot about problems with the pads in the forum.
(velocity, don’t react like they should etc.)
Now my question:
Is this a harware or a software problem ?
Did elektron built in pads with bad quality and the problem will be still in future ? Or is it a softwareproblem, and some days in future they will work fine after an OS-update ?

thanx for information

tm

I’m thinking and hoping its a software thing. For example they work pretty well I performance mode but other times not so well or they’re less sensitive

they’re not giving up any solid info on it at customer support, i’ve tried emailing them and they’ve promised that “we’re working on it!” but won’t actually comment on any details past that…
all we can do at this stage is wait and see I think…

I’m sure somebody will come out with a pad upgrade like the MPC fat pads if there’s enough demand and it’s possible?!. I don’t find em a problem but I just wanted RYTM for a DM rather than a finger drum box. The pads are a bit small for that anyway I think.

Edit - Read a user was finding his pads are breaking in slightly after lots of use!! But I do think a software revision will go some way to making them more playable. Basically unless playing the pads With maximum expression out of the box is the deal breaker I wouldn’t let it put you off.

Hey Elektron guys

Is this “bad pads” thing valid for non finger drummers?

By that I mean I really just want some give in the pads not total memory foam synthetic mpc roger linn stuff… I would be happy with anything similar to the novation launchpad mini.

I hope IV explained myself well enough any help is welcome I really want to buy somthing this christmas and having used elektron before they tend to offer a bit more depth.

Cheers

YMMV but I have never had any issues with the pads getting in the way of making music, you may have to adapt a little, and they may be different from other devices - certainly could have been improved wrt overall feel, but never been an obstacle for me - a small price to pay for the sonic goods imho - really best to try one out if possible and be prepared to adapt to it and let the pads material break in a little bit

@avantronica thank you,

I did own a MDuw And this looks like its successor in spades but the pad matrix taking on the role of the MD click button nature for pattern launching and obvious other enhancements not found on the MD had me worried. There is nothing else on the market that covers the bases for the money.

well you can’t launch patterns from the Pads, but you can assign scenes and performance macro(uses aftertouch type pressure) and you can also Trig the tracks from the Trig buttons 1-12 and you can also disable velocity sensitivity

It basically won’t respond to feather light touches as drum inputs, but will respond to feather light touches for muting etc - the after touch feel is good - and tbh, if it had cardboard and tinfoil for a pad matrix and still sounded this good I couldn’t care less - but each to their own - it’s a hot topic where subjectivity and expectation gets confused with objectivity - I read about the fuss, but didn’t really see why after the fact - I’ve never owned an MPC but i’d say the feel was less dynamic than i’d have liked, but I never gave it a second thought until now tbh

My pads are fine. They’re not as responsive as some of the newer akai pads, but I’ve never had much of a problem with building expressive patterns using the pads to live record. They are small though. The unit itself is so small so you can’t do much about that.

i had a problem and received new pads. They were much better.
Maybe it is not good for hiphop style finger drumming
But for me, making electronic music, they are amazing…
very good for the mute, scene and perf mode…

Cheers guys seems its a non issue
