Hey guys, i thought it might be interesting to have a thread about drum machines that aren’t your standard Elektron, Roland, Korg, Dsi, xox, 808/909 clones etc…
There seem to be a number of less standard sequencer based drum machines appearing and im sure i only know a small number, i thought it might be fun to knock heads together and see what other ones we can come up with.
@virtual_flannel - have you used a bleep drum? they look kind of fun, particularly to build yourself A friend of mine has got a thingamigoop and it is cool, tho probably over priced.
reviving this thread to ask for some modern strange and unique drum machines. i was inspired by the Scrooge and the Crum Drum 2, we have some cool options nowadays, what are some others?
im trying to fight off TR-8S gas, because i have a feeling i would get bored with it quickly. Scrooge looks sick but im not sure if im ready to dive into the soldering world just yet.
im quickly realizing crum drum 1 is probably the answer to my desires right now. im trying to set my expectations realistically for the crum drum 2 because im pretty sure i wont be able to afford that beauty
No kidding. I’m hopeful that it’s affordable by some stretch. So far Love Hultén has only been making art piece looking custom synths.
“Hultén, who takes on roughly 15 commission jobs a year, has also built pieces for A$AP Rocky, Danger Mouse, Michael B. Jordan, and Argentinian producer Bizarrap, to name a few. (His work typically costs between three and nine thousand dollars, depending on size and complexity.)”
we can dream.
Note that standalone the OG Crum Drum only has two scales and a mode that bounces up and down octaves for the bass synth channel unless you sequence it externally. But yeah, I love those weird FM-y drum sounds.
Oh!
There’s Noon by Landscape too. Took me a bit to remember. There’s a weird one.
Passive synths are a really new concept for me, but I think they’re super cool. Seeing Scrooge coverage too recently reminded me how weird and raw it is.
