Can it be used like a “traditional” sampler. I.e.
specifically in the following ways
able to map a different sample to each note on a channel - for example to create a drum kit on a single channel
or spanning a waveform cycle across multiple pitches, to allow a it to be played like a synth (either monophonically or polyphonically), again on a single channel?
great, but i take it each channel behaves monophonically, so for example, i couldn’t have a bass drum & snare triggered at the same time on a single channel (like the monomachine)
You can kind of work around this if your sample contains layered percussion. You can prepare this ahead of time on a PC if you want, or the easiest way to do it is program a beat on 3 tracks and re-sample it. Then slice it and use the slices to re-work the beat.
For example what I might do is this:
Track 1: Kick
Track 2: Snare
Track 3: Closed Hat / Open Hat (slices or sample locks)
Make a 32 bar beat with those and sample onto Track 4. Then slice the sampled beat on track 4 and re-use tracks 1-4
Often times the initial beat I do on 1-3 will be silly just to get different combinations of hits. Usually the combinations I want are kick, snare, ohat, clhat, kick&snare, kick&ohat, kick&clhat, kick&snare&ohat, kick&snare&clhat, snare&ohat, snare&clhat
You can accomplish this easily with a 2 bar pattern, factoring enough space for decay between the hits.
It’s not the most straightforward way to do it, but it’s a good way to construct a kit within the OT’s limitations.
you can use the OT or as a drum machine/like a module using a sample per track and so a kit of 8 drum elements .
In this way you can trigger the drum as an old drum machine.
Is not possible to play chromatically and poly as a classic sampler.
you can play chromaticly only 2 octave for sample, and the “pitch” is not the best sounding on a sampler.
you cannot play chromatically and poly… there is no poly mode.
