Oh geez
Pulled out the old Octatrack mkI and in chromatic or track mode I can’t hear the buttons being pressed. If I record Triggs I can hear. Unit is synced from S2400.
Please tell me the stupid thing I’m doing wrong.
Come on
Omg, now I can’t get any sound at all.
watch live as I go insane
Come on people wake up
Ok I’m angry now. I muted the scene X faders and sound is back. WTF, I tried a new project also ?
Dude, chill. Take a deep breath. You will get help.
I actually thought you were going deaf. Calm down and make a detailed description of what is going wrong. Perhaps a video. And remember what Don Corleone told Johnny Fontane.
Ok, I’m cool now thanks.
I don’t know why muting the scenes worked, may be a little bug.
Stress is gone now.
Just kills the mood.
You mute scenes with Function + Scene Button. Afair no bug there. You can run a test routine to check the physical switches and encoders and other hardware to make sure there’s no problem.
Hold Function while powering up and press trig 1 to enter test mode - but there are many different things in OT that can affect whats happening. There are also many different cool things you can do with OT, so worth spending the time to get it to know, imho.
I’m sure it was a bug.
At first the trig keys wouldn’t play any samples, pressing play did play some sounds. Then tried chromatic mode and still nothing (not muted).
I made a new project, added a sample, func+enter previewed sample ok. Then the same thing, no sound.
Then I turned off(muted) the scenes and hey presto we have sound. I never set any scenes up .
I’ll have a look again today, maybe it’s a dud program or something.
Also I know there are many things that can cause this and I checked. But it’s seems strange the scenes affected it.
In tracks mode (the default mode when you switch on OT),
Trig buttons 1-8 trig the disconnected track (when plays free is active for that track), so it starts/stops the actual sequencer on that track (trigs, p-locks, etc.), but only when plays free is active, otherwise nothing will happen.
Trig buttons 9-16 trig the machine of the track, so of you want to play samples with the buttobs, either use trig buttons 9-16 in tracks mode, or change to slot mode.
In midi mode, trig buttons 1-8 trig tracks 1-8, trig buttons 9-16 trig the midi tracks 1-8.
Page 69 OT Mk1 pdf manual, if you want to read more about that, the different trig modes etc.
Edit
The behaviour in tracks mode might seem confusing, but in midi mode you can trig all audio and midi tracks, so having trigs 1-8 trig the track and not the machine does mean the behaviour does not have to swapped when changing to midi mode - which cause even more confusion.
Yeah that’s what I was trying, but no sound .
Ah, ok, sry. Multiple possible reasons, scenes, lfos, incoming midi etc.
Probaply not a bug, tho if you can’t replicate it.
Sometimes OT can act weird, reloading the project, saving as new project or switching OT off and on again always solved it for me, tho. It happens twice a year on average with my OT I’d say, using my OT basically every day.
Yes that’s true.
I think we can leave it at that.
Thanks
