Hi,

I was (quick) reading its manual and watching Rytm videos, and I have some doubts before purchase it. Please, if you can answer them I’ll be really happy

  1. can be samples previewed while browsing?
  2. I’m not very sure if you can see in chromatic mode, while you’re step-editing patterns, the pitch is playing in each step. Do the pads light when you press any of the 16 triggers?
  3. Is possible record in realtime differents trigs time lenghts? I like gated sequences, with some notes being shorter than others.
  4. Can this machine sample? (I’m almost sure it cannot, just confirm me)
  5. Maybe the most important question: In the past I purchased an Octatrack. However it wasn’t as fun and inmediate than a MachineDrum, it had too many menus to do some live improvisation. It seems Rytm is more inmediate than OT. Can someone confirm?

Basically what I’m looking for is the perfect machine for my x0xb0x, that support oneshot samples, and allow write some basic melodies, my old ESX is really broken and need a replacement. The perfect solution should be Rytm+Four, but that would be in a future, when I have the money.

hi!

1- unfortunately NOT (big mistake so far imo)
2-i think not, but i don’t have the machine here now :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
3-not, the different lenght is adjusted with p.locks, because like you say are one shot samples controlled by adsr and sample duration
4-no
5-i see Rytm easier than octatrack, anyway i think both are fast workflow machines, maybe learning curve in octatrack is a bit more longer, but not something really complex

I have to correct Curve

#2 does happen

  4. Not yet, but likely soon in an update.

  5. Yes if you hold a trig key the not value lights up on the pads in orange.

  6. Yes, if you hold the pad longer the trig is longer.

  7. Nope, its not a sampler its a sample player with analog filters, dist, etc.

  8. I similarly didn’t enjoy the octatrack and sold it. The RYTM is far far more fun to use and more intimidate. In my opinion its the best product they have ever released (and I’ve owned them all)

Luck,

  1. I don’t know about anyone else, but if i am in the sample page, tweak the sample knob and go through the sample list while hitting the pad, I hear the samples. Similarly, if I have a sequence already programmed, and scroll through my samples, it plays them as I scroll.

I would say that this qualifies as previewing ??

  1. yes

  2. yes

  3. no

  4. yes

Please make sure you check your facts carefully before posting this kind of info, as people who don’t know better will assume that you are right. In this case, you’re not

  1. Yes for the sample pool (128 samples can be loaded) of the current active project. No currently for the total sample library (I think 4GB max. space) on the +Drive. But you can load quickly from the library into specific pool slots while a sequence is running using this slot.

Thank you guys, I’m in, I’m going to order it this monday. I think I have everything I need now.

NO.
128 Sounds per Project
127 samples per Project
1 GB +Drive sample storage

“1. can be samples previewed while browsing?”

what I do is I have a 16 step sequence runing and put a trig on a step, set the trig to sample using plock (turn synth down 100% in most cases) then just scroll up and down through the kit list and you can hear a different sample on each loop through the 16 step sequence - if you know roughly where in the kit where your sample is it only takes a few seconds to find it and hear it being triggered.

I’ve noticed that while listening to the wrong sample getting triggered you hit on things you migh not have been planning to do so hearing vocal snippet 6 in your loop when you’d been aiming for vocal snippet 3 can set you off in a new direction!

“3. Yes, if you hold the pad longer the trig is longer.”

can someone elaborate on this please?

Surely a trig is either on or off? A synth sound/sample is either played or not on any individual step.

What is a long/longer trig? Sounds interesting.

I am obviously not understanding something.

The note length, the time between Note On and Note Off. This is independent of the envelope time; a sound with a non-zero sustain level will sound til the Note Off, when it will enter its release phase.

ok thanks - I will investigate that

+1 for adding the feature of previewing +Drive samples. Otherwise, how to choose what to load for a project? Big PITA. That’s the only negative thing I’ve come across so far- otherwise I’m loving the rytm!
