Question with connecting devices with iConnectMidi4+

Hi,
I’m looking at getting a midi/usb interface for my setup. At the moment I’m doing a midi chaining with the AR as the master into A4 - DN - Pulse2. I just got a MPC one and I would like that to be my ‘brains’ to my setup. I also want to incorporate my ipad with this setup so I can sample and sequence thru the MPC one. Looking at the capabilities of the iConnectMidi4+ I think that this might the right piece of gear to link everything up. I’m not sure, maybe someone could offer some advice on this.

What I think would work out is,
I hook everything up thru usb AR, A4, DN, Pulse2, Keystep and MPC one.
With everything connected thru usb, I think I can set AR or the MPC as master clock sending to the other devices.

I have a scarlet 6i6 1st gen connected to the ipad and I really like the sound of the synths coming thru it. So can I plug the 6i6 to the USB host port of the iConnectMidi4+ and have audio route from the ipad to the 6i6?

USB A port goes to Mac, USB B port goes to ipad. With this I can ‘reroute’ devices with the software on the Mac.

Any thoughts on this if this would work?

Hello!

For midi:
You just have to make sure that each device in your set up do take usb midi.
And yes it will work. You’ll need a usb hub.
If some device only work in regular midi it will work too, you can have some devices in usb midi and some in midi din.

For audio: I don’t think that the I connect midi4+ transfers audio…
I think that you would need an iconnectaudio. (Those are much more expensive)

You can only plug midi gear into the iConnect’s host port.

You can, however, route audio between Mac and iPad when connected to the USB ports, and do audio loopback on either. But to get that audio out to speakers, you’d need to create aggregate device with the Scarlet, using the Mac.

That should work great, but aggregating devices adds latency.

oh ok. thanks for clearing that up. I’m trying to not turn on the computer and create first solely on the hardware. I guess I’ll just look for a cheaper midi interface like a Motu MTP. I understand that that can work standalone, which would be perfect for my setup.

The iConnect works standalone without a computer. It’s just that it has no analog ins or outs to connect to speakers etc.
