Question regarding Model:Cycles and Model:Samples MIDI input

Heya Elektronauts. I’ve been trying to figure this out but I can’t find any answer to it.

I have a Model:Samples connected to a Behringer TD-3 via MIDI OUT on track 6 for visual comfort, really. Track 6 is set to MIDI channel 3, and the TD-3 receives a signal there just fine. So that works. I can hear the notes being played on the TD-3.
I also have a Behringer MS-1 connected to the Model:Samples, which outputs MIDI on channel 3. I figured I could input notes into the Elektron sequencer this way, because I’m not too good with its keyboard mode, and the octave switching gives me a headache. Now when I press a key on the 101, channel 6 triggers on the Model:Samples (lights up) but the TD-3 doesn’t receive any notes, therefore outputs no sound. I really hope there’s a way for this to work– would be sweet to sequence the TD-3 this way.

Thanks

It appears that incoming Midi is not forwarded to the out port when an external keyboard is used. This is also not working when using the MC auto channel on the controlling device, this also happens on the analogs with their bolted on midi sequencing.

So yes, it is impossible to conveniently program an external device via midi. It’s a big oversight in terms of functionality although there may be reasons for it to be this way. From my perspective it seems overlooked, especially in the case of auto channel programming where the external keys should effectively replace the on board ones.

You would be best off asking for the feature as a request

Aw man, that’s a shame. Thanks for the quick reply avantronica

I’ll try to word a request correctly.
