Quality control - paint work / powder coating

A slight moan.
I got one of the first A4’s on pre-order when they where announced.
It sits to the left go my MS20 and has NEVER been gigged let alone moved in the studio.
It now has 4 very fine marks on the very edges of the faceplate where the powder coating / paint work has come off and it shouldn’t under the circumstances - about the only thing to come into contact with it would have been the button from a shirt cuff and dust covers (all fabric + a duster ( the type used for cleaning camera lenses).
I own an Octatrack and it looks absolutely unblemished like the day it was purchased and I baby my gear.
It gets covered at night, dusted off every day and so on. The OT is considerably older (unit wise) and clearly uses a different paint treatment that has a grain to the finish - (my A4 feels very smooth to the touch in comparison).
Firstly at this price point I expect better and it puts me off ever gigging with the unit and secondly the new Analog RYTM had better have a better quality finish on it also for the asking price.
These 3 paint flakes have only appeared in the past month or so but seriously should not have happened under the circumstances in the first place (IMHO).

Just wanted to add that the MnM / OT & MD are all incredibly well built and the knobs etc all work fine on the A4 but the quality of the paint finish leaves a lot to be desired when compared to the other units.

The paint issues with the first A4s are well known about.
I had the same issue.

They have fixed it now though.
I sent mine back under warranty and they gave it a new faceplate with the new paint finish. It feels much more durable, and no chips have appeared.

I don’t own an OT but apparently the new paintwork is very similar.
After all the complaints about the initial run of A4s, I’m pretty sure they won’t make the same mistake for the RYTM.

Mine has a few small chips, it doesn’t bother me. Small chips in paint won’t effect performance and are purely superficial. If it keeps pitting and chipping over the next 10 years i actually think it will look rather cool, and who knows, these first run ones could become a collectors item.

I sent mt A4 back for an unrelated fault & when it came back they’d changed the faceplate.
If it concerns you get in touch & they should change it free of charge.
As mentioned, it’s only cosmetic so it doesn’t bother some people.
It may affect resale should you decide to part with it at some point though!
