Push 3 Users Thread

I get you - the workarounds are there. I guess I’m just considering the value for me of the standalone aspect of the Push 3 right now. I love using it, but I can also just plug in my laptop, put it in clamshell mode and nothing has changed as to how I’m approaching things…

I don’t really see myself ripping out all the cables and putting that hunk on my lap  (well, and I can just get a long USB cable and still have it on my lap)

Aware that is more of a me thing rather than anything else.

I mean, use the gear that works for you! But if you’re not getting the workflow you want from those pieces of gear, then try new gear! Personally, the Hapax wasn’t ultimately for me, though I thought it did a bunch of stuff well. The Digitakt is cool and Elektron’s sequencing isn’t going to be replaced by the Push 3. But for what it’s worth, I’m really enjoying the Push 3 so far.

Yeah, it’d be simpler (and a smaller setup) to skip the middle step of an audio interface ADAT. But the ADAT device I bought used was very affordable for eight outs, and aside from my own initial ignorance, wasn’t too hard to set up.

Wow, this is really valuable to know! I’m so sorry it happened to you on stage, but really grateful you posted.

I am actually new to the push and I havent used a daw either.
I have some elektron devices but I had issues creating real songs from my patterns with them.
And yes, I was really surprised how intuitive and logical that thing is given its complexity.
There is still a lot to learn but I havent had the feeling to be stuck as of now.
On my first evening with it I actually managed to create a song like thing (not saying it was good).
It is still a little rought around the edges: The select midi notes bug annoys the heck out of me and I expected it to better visualize/edit automations and mpe data
but I also did not expect it to be perfect one week after the release and hope that it will improve on that in the coming updates.
I love it.

I willingly took the risk, because everything seemed stable while practicing in the studio and doing band rehearsals.
I was shocked something so trivial as switching to the master channel would crash the whole system.
To be fair, I was able to finish the performance by avoiding the master channel button. And the 500 people there didn’t seem to be completely put off by hearing the intro loop 3 times in a row. Phew.

I think I managed to fix the corrupt set yesterday, fingers crossed it stays that way until the next show on Thursday.

Yes. I suppose Im building different lists of things I only need to setup once on a computer and then can reuse in standalone mode forever more, stuff I will need to keep going backwards and forwards with, etc.

Certainly I wouldnt recommend standalone for someone who plans to never or seldom use a computer. Even if various things become accessible from the Push 3s own interface as time goes on, there is still the question of file transfer having to be done via Live on a computer.

I think that’s a great setup!

I’ve loaded complex Ableton sets with M4L plugins into the P3S without problems before, so I suppose it comes down to making sure that the .als one intends to play isn’t corrupted, even if it’s very lightweight and simple.

How do you like the 1U tray? Is it useful, or does it take up more space than wanted?

I have the same desk (same color) and have been curious about adding a slide-out shelf. I just don’t know If I can give up the space the brackets take up.

It’s not bad. Bit tight in there. If anything gets pushed back I can’t get my hand in there to get it out, so you have to push it out of the back.

This sliding tray has been handy though. Doesn’t quite fit as you need a deeper space so you can attach it at the back and front, but it works well enough.

Inital experience with the Push 3 - no error on startup. Firmware updated well.

Lots of freezes though when I try and install packs or load MPE patches. Now the packs don’t always let me download.

Still not sure how to get Ableton to see my Push 3. It doesn’t see any. I have authorized mine and it is connected to my wifi. It shows up on my mesh router so I have no idea why ableton can’t see it.

Kind of a plodding process so far, but hoping I can get it all going.

Make sure you go into Settings on the P3 and set it to Control Live

I have seen at least one video with the guy really frustrated that he can’t just hit “load all” packs.

It says “any push in standalone mode and in the same wifi network is shown below” and it says 0 pushes available.

I have tried it in control live and also standalone mode. It is on wifi and is able to download packs just fine, so that is odd. I updated my router firmware and reset everything to be safe.

I don’t know if it works but the stupid thing I did was trying to use the Beta, which was an earlier version without Push support. Installed the latest release version from the site and it worked.

So now it sees the push out of the blue. But when I switched it to standalone mode to get the code and sync them, it has basically stalled at the loading screen for the past 3 minutes.

And now it doesn’t show any push available again. My god.
