Push 3 Users Thread

That is fantastic news. I suppose I should download the new beta. Does it seem stable?

I ordered a Push 3 and I’m so excited. I feel like my studio is complete and I honestly could see myself not spend another cent except to replace my 2020 M1 when it starts to give. For a long time I didn’t really understand what it was and wasn’t very interested to learn what it can do for whatever reason. I tried out a Move recently and I finally understood that a Push can be the ultimate music making tool after running into some limitations on Move. I started to think of the Push as like an Analog 4 killer. I can have 4+ synth tracks with everything customizable.

The main thing I’m curious about is if I can set up global macros. I have never attempted this on Live, (I have a lot to learn) but I can see this being great for performances. I believe the Push does not have Live’s Modulators, but saw there is a max4live device. I will be really curious to see how intuitive this is when I get the unit.

On my Push 3 the blue authorize button never goes away even after authorising multiple times on phone and PC browser.

That isn’t right surely?

Does it show up on multiple tabs, or just the Software tab? Mine only appears on the Software tab. I admit that it’s a little bit of clutter for your eyes, but as long as you can see your serial number and email under the blue button, you don’t need to worry about it. It bothered me a tiny bit for a while, but I don’t notice it anymore.

@chockfullofthat welcome to the club! I assume by “global macros,” you want to map controls from multiple tracks and devices to a single control surface (Ableton calls this Remote Mapping). At present, Push 3 Standalone doesn’t let you create remote mappings, but if you create a template in Live desktop and drag it to P3S, all your mappings will work. Just make sure that you have your MIDI devices set up the same way on both devices. My main template has all my remote mappings linked to a Faderfox UC4, but you can always just use Push’s User Mode if you would rather not bring another controller.

You can also look into the Performance Pack, which is a bit of a chore to set up but offers some crazy customization options. And even if you don’t need all the bells and whistles, it’s nice being able to control devices across your entire set without needing to change your track selection. Unfortunately, much like modulators and remote mappings, you need to set it all up on desktop and transfer your template over.

Hope that all made sense! Let me know if you have any questions

Me. But I’ve been having this issue since I got the Push last year while still on Live 11. I’ve been in contact with support about this testing all kinds of things and they’ve decided to replace mine.

Ya I’ve been researching the topic and saw the Performance Pack thing. I think I determined that the easiest way will be to just use my Launch Control for this purpose. Can you explain a bit more how you use a template with Faderfox? Is it essentially blank macro knobs set up to the correct MIDI CC’s of your Faderfox that you can easily assign to parameters in Live?

Well, I think I’ve narrowed my issue down to switching the Push on before opening Live. Then MPE doesn’t work until a reset. If I turn the Push on after opening Live, however, everything seems to work just fine. I’ll keep an eye on it!

Great that there’s a simple solve for you! I tried all kinds of permutations of connecting first, powering on last etc. and there didn’t seem to be any logic to it. Except that almost every time I needed to power cycle the Push after connecting to get MPE working.

Went through the whole support spiel of checking midi + Push settings, disconnecting all other midi devices, resetting Live and in the end got sent their User Tool to test the hardware but that really didn’t seem to point to a single thing either.

Then the issue seemed to have ‘solved itself’ with 12.2.7 first (until it came back) and again with 12.3 (it came back again) so in the end they decided to replace mine.

As mentioned earlier: In my case this issue was present on both Live 11 and 12 and on two different computers.

Thanks for explaining what happened to you. I’ll definitely get in touch with Ableton Support if this continues.

Can anyone else test what happens with MPE if they turn their Push 3 (controller version) on before opening Live?

starting push before or after opening live makes no difference regarding MPE for me. the difference if you start push after opening live is that you have to reselect push as audio interface. I often switch between bitwig and live, push is on all time and works. I would start push always before the software, like you turn on your computer and start a sound card before you open an application .

I get that. I often have Live open on the couch doing some stuff with headphones and then go upstairs to the ‘studio’ to perform an arrangement or whatever where I connect to Push and have to manually select Push as an audio interface. But then the MPE stil didn’t work immediately, before or after selecting the audio interface.

Hi, can someone tell me how to reset a value to zero? I’m playing with Chiral, from Fors, and played with slope( bipolar), but now very difficult to just reach the zero point… maybe there’s a knob combination that i don’t find…

I don’t have Chiral, but generally holding the Delete button while touching the parameter knob will reset it to its default value.

Delete and touch the encoder

I spoke too soon. MPE doesn’t work on first boot whether I switch the Push 3 on before or after opening Live. But MPE is then immediately fine after turning the machine off and then on again. Annoying.

Out of curiosity, is this a new issue for you? And, Windows or Mac?

I only got my Push 3 last week and it’s been happening since the start. And I’m on Mac.

Very similar story to mine then. (Also Macs and the issue was there from the beginning) I’d definitely contact support unless you’re ok with always having to power cycle your Push to kickstart the MPE

Yep, I’ll do that. Thanks!
