Push 3 Users Thread

Btw guys. Is any one else having trouble finding Expressive Chords in Live Standard?

I double clicked the ALP package it installed fine. But I don’t see it under MIDi effects.

Look under packs. I found it in there I think after I had installed it.

Fantastic advice! Expressive Chords is working really great on my Push 3 Standalone, for me it’s a game changer.

not me. the workflow improvements are a big upgrade imo. navigating p2 with the arrows was a bit torturous, I’d never go back.

Same. The 3 is so much easier to use, and that’s before ypu get to the MPE pads, and the I/O

I thought the navigating workflow was the same, what difference are you guys talking about… I know there is that center button on the P3 but both the p2 and p3 can navigate with the jog dial right?

p2 doesn’t have a jog wheel. it’s so much better to navigate with. the new button placement too. it all just makes more sense.

So much fun in stand alone:

Making music on the Push 3 is so fast.

right but you can scroll through everything in almost the same way or is there a bigger difference?

I can see how the little things like the button placements could feel good, I’m sensitive about things like that as well, I’m just wondering if it’s enough to make the leap… if the p3 didn’t have the mpe stuff and the cv/modular stuff would you still have gotten it?

personally I’m not really interested in mpe. it’s all about the (seemingly small) navigating & ui improvements I mentioned. they make a huge difference to me. then there’s the audio interface too. I haven’t used it yet but I plan to.

Can anyone tell me if the workflow differences between Suite 11 and 12 are major on the Push 3 SA? I got the Push recently but I seldom reach for it because I’m not that immediate with it yet. Not sure if I should upgrade yet. Also, do you guys have any resource tips?

Same for me. I rarely used the 2, but I turn on the 3 almost every time I use Live. If you can get a good deal on a 2 though, maybe try that. It’s quite a different machine though imo

It’s the other way around for me.
I kept hold of my Push 2 when I got the P3, thinking I’d use it at home.
I very rarely use the P2 now because the P3 is so much better… it’s that big jog wheel mainly; that is the Push 3 to me.

Yep. I would. The jog wheel makes a VERY big difference IME. It is a quality bit of kit that makes it much faster and more intuitive than Push 2 to do a bunch of stuff. MIDI editing is particularly good with the jog wheel.

Add to that the revised button layout (way more logical than P2 IMO) and the pads (much more sensitive and responsive than P2) and it’s worth the upgrade I think. And that’s without taking into account the audio interface, ADAT IN/OUT, CV etc.

The MPE aspects are a nice to have for me, it is the other changes that swung it for me.

Also: bonus is they finally got rid of that horrrible sticky TPE “soft touch” coating that turns every bit of gear into a fluff magnet.

I tried the recommended ethernet to USB adapters on both devices. Still no luck.

Yeah push 3 is so much better. My only complaint is I keep brushing against the volume knob and it displays the volume over and over if I’m not careful.

They also got rid of that on the Push 2 years ago. And good riddance

Question about the stiffness of the buttons on Push 3. I’m not talking about the MPE pads, but the other buttons. I come from Elektron boxes, and pressing a button on, say, a DT is so much more satisfying and effortless.

On Push 3, I have to apply so much force for a simple press—it feels like I have to train my muscles! It actually slows down my workflow. Have you tried using the mute switch while pressing a track button with your pinky at the same time? This seems contradictory to the tenderness with which the MPE pads can be played.

agreed, I wish they used different kinda buttons.
