Got it thanks
So can you create an Instrument Rack and add Drift to the rack plus a couple of insert effects - all from Push 3 standalone? When I try to add Drift to the rack it just replaces the rack
Edit: If I hold select and select the rack then I have an option to Group. This then creates another rack inside the rack. I can then change the second rack for a Drift and add insert effects. Is this the correct way to do it? Seems like an odd workflow
Also, can I rename an Instrument Rack before I save it as a preset in my User Library. I can’t find a way and now I have loads of presets called Instrument Rack
-
Press the empty rack again to enter it and then add a new device. It will be inside the rack instead of replacing it.
-
Only if you want nested racks… See 1. for the regular workflow
-
To rename, scroll to a preset push the jogweel to the right and select rename.
I can’t get this to work, are you sure you can do this from the Push 3?
I think you have to create the Drift instrument first, then shift and Drift, select group. This then adds the Drift instrument to an Instrument Rack.
The default preset on any device is the one that automatically loads into that device whenever you create an init patch instance of it (ie this is what you get if you add the device itself to your set instead of loading a preset for the device from the browser).
So, once you’ve tweaked an instance of Drift to your liking and saved it as you default preset (as I described in my earlier post), to add a Drift to your track directly on Push you just hit the big “+” button, select MIDI track, select Instruments, select Drift (not any of the presets in the browser underneath Drift… literally just click on the word “Drift” itself at the top of the stack), and the instance of Drift that’s added on Push will automatically include all the settings you saved as your default preset earlier.
Remember you can save a default preset for any device. So (for example) if you want the Delay device to always open in ping-pong mode, on your computer load up a Delay in a track, go into the settings to select ping-pong then right-click and select “Save as default preset”.
I think so, but otherwise you can add Drift and then group it into a rack as you said
Thanks, but how do you send that new default to the Push 3SA?
I won’t be able to verify this for a couple of hours, but IIRC if you open Live and connect to Push Standalone over wifi, you can access the Defaults folder on Push. When you save the Drift preset as default, it will get saved to your Defaults folder in Live — just copy it over to Push, make sure Push and Live have the same folder structure, and you should be good to go!
If the folder isn’t there by default, you can copy your entire Defaults folder from Live to Push and it should work. I did a factory reset after the 2.1 update and haven’t set my defaults up again but I don’t remember there being any challenges the first time!
I’m slowly wrapping my head around the Push 3SA, but there’s one thing I can’t figure out…
When you load a drum rack, there are send/returns set up within the rack. How do you access these effects buses to swap them out or adjust effects parameters etc.?
Thanks, I meant can you adjust the effect parameters?
Although I’ve checked the manual and don’t think it’s possible without loading the set up in Live. Seems like a strange omission. You can change the drum racks send effect and adjust the effects parameters on the Move so I was expecting to be able to do this on the Push too.
All of the defaul presets you save are stored in your User Library. I have P3 controller not standalone, but IIRC as long as you sync your User Library on P3S with your User Library in Live on the computer, the default presets you’ve created will apply whenever you create a new device in the P3S.
Thanks, when you say Sync, do you mean you can automatically sync them somehow so they always match, or do you just mean copying them over?
Seems to really solved the issue. Strange that it runs well but has problems shutting down. But I am thankful that the PSU did the trick. Thanx for helping out.
So, what M4L devices should I be downloading/buying for the Push 3SA?
This came up with a simple search…use that first, please

It’s still a manual process for now— I’m really hoping they make some sort of automated process soon.
It’s also worth noting that Collections will copy over from your user library, so you can organize your samples and presets on desktop and match the organization on Standalone really easily. However, I haven’t found a way to sync Collections and Tags for Core Library and downloadable Packs yet.
Thanks, I did see those threads but there isn’t much mentioned in them to be honest.
Well, I’ll give you one…Fors Dyad. A must have!
If you want devices that utilise the grid on push then dyad from Fors and seeds from Novel music is pretty great.
However, there is currently a bug from Ableton’s side making it not work as intended in standalone. Hopefully will be fixed soon though
