Push 3 Users Thread

Good morning Paul…

I suppose its possible your unresponsive pads are a software issue, but it is not possible that your loose jog wheel is software, so I assume you’ll be asking for an exchange or returning it?

touchstrip gone haywire again like 10 minutes ago. I love the device so far but it’s happening so frequently that kills the joy out of it.

I’ll ask exchange if it’s a hardware defect. I always dreamed ableton in a box - this is my fantasy becoming real (and loving it even I do have a faulty one)

Good attitude- even the best hardware can have the odd ‘return’ issue but Ableton are super reputable and will sort you out one way or another…I am sure they are a bit slammed right now as this is a once in a decade product launch for them, but they will make it right, you can be sure of that.

Ok for those having problem in not getting Expressive Choir pack, here is the solution, once Push 3 is registered in your account, Live needs to be reauthorised.

I screen shot this info for another thread. Thanks

I’ve just tried the built-in “Spectrum” audio effect that will generate a spectrograph in Live.

It loads on Push 3 standalone but it shows a “No Parameter Mapped” message and doesn’t display anything useful.

Thank you so much, that worked! <3

I just got mine and it powers over USB. Controller only, included cable, M1 Macbook Pro. Screen’s pretty dim though.

Ableton support has been good - shipping my device back and getting a new one, hopefully in a week (to fix my faulty master volume encoder)

I only had the one autogenerated response to the USB issue. I put in a request on Wednesday to return my unit and haven’t gotten a response on that yet :man_shrugging:

This worked! Thanks.

I doubt the ribbon glitch is hardware. Mine went crazy earlier, with the light flickering at the top ribbon position, when I was in controller mode but when I rebooted to standalone it instantly became fine again.

I’m in the same boat. Had one response I’m the week or so since I raised my usb issue. At this rate I’ll likely have to make a call myself to return or not before the 30 days are up.

Any chance you can forward the email address you have in a PM, as I can’t creat a ticket (not sure if anyone else in the uk is having the same issues as me making a ticket?). I have the same issue with usb power.

I have had the Push 3 (controller version) for almost a week already. I have played with it every day for a couple of hours. So far, the hardware seems and feels really good. I don’t think my unit has any problems at all; I think it is very solid. The software, however, is another story. It clearly needs some ironing out, I have encountered multiple glitches and bugs.

I have been debating with myself whether to order the standalone version and return the controller version (I would mostly use the standalone for live playing). But as each day passes, it becomes clearer to me that, in my case, the controller version is the way to go for a couple of reasons (other than the €1000 difference). Here are a few considerations about it:

  • It weighs considerably less than the standalone version.
  • It doesn’t get hot at all and feels very nice to play on my lap.
  • Over the years, I have stopped using almost all of Ableton’s instruments. The only Live synth I enjoy the sound of and use is Wavetable, and even in that case, I don’t love it. The new synth, Drift, I find quite thin and uninspiring in sound. As a reference, my go-to synth in the box is Repro, which I adore. The same goes for FX (I vastly prefer Ghz, Soundtoys, and the like), although I do use quite a bit of Live’s FX creatively. So, in my case, not having a proper computer attached to the Push would mean giving up too much of “my sound”. That said, I don’t expect the Push to support VSTs, and I don’t find it disappointing either. It is what it is. And for live playing, I actually cannot imagine a better option than the Push standalone currently.
  • The computer I use with the Push is a Macbook Air M1, which most of the time I don’t even notice is there because it takes up no space and weighs nothing. And it is much more powerful than Ableton’s i3 offer, by the way. In my case, bus powering the Push works like a charm. I even had to dim the light of the pads (while on bus power) because I found it too bright for my eyes in a dark environment.
  • The controller version feels 100% like an instrument, in my opinion, due to the fact that it has an integrated audio interface and all audio inputs, outputs, and MIDI go directly into it. For me, that is a very welcome change from the Push 2.
  • I find it very well designed and actually very intuitive to use. I have close to zero experience with Push (but I know Live very well). I had the original Push about 9 years ago for a short period of time, but I never used it a lot. And I immediately clicked with the Push 3; everything I want to do, I find within seconds, and I have hardly had to check the manual. The only two things I actually had to check were how to deactivate devices within an FX chain and how to change the functionality of the touch strip from pitch bend to mod wheel. So, I have to applaud Ableton for the design of the unit and its interface!

I’ve been a desktop user for so long that my biggest excitement over Push 3 is that it’s going to be very easy to get a laptop instead and maybe just add a monitor.

I might have to borrow my better half’s Mac Book Air M2 to see how it gets along. I’ve always gotten decent specs on Apple desktops because I used to do lots of video work, but I’m not doing that anymore. I’m hoping an Air will be all I need.

I have the standalone coming but aside from external effects, I’m okay using Lives effects. I’ll still do mixing only on the computer.

Too bad about all the issues, but it’s still exciting about the flexibility.

All my emails seem to be going to:

contact@support.ableton.com

Just a pretty generic email but had some luck. Just had another response and hopefully the Ableton guys don’t mind me sharing:

This doesn’t offer any closure for me but gives some hope I guess

Has anyone had any luck syncing standalone to an elektron device? Ive been failing to get my octatrack mk2 to be the master clock, i can sync it to the push just fine but the bpm wanders alot and makes the octatrack unusable :frowning: I did notice if i press play on a launchpad pro it plays, if i hook up the octatrack the same way (set to send midiclock and transport) all my elektron gear plays but the push doesnt. So frustrating. Maybe its down to live having the remote scripts for the launchpads?

Still doesn’t make sense. Are we going to compare computers now? In that case, my Push 3 doesn’t get USB power from the M1 14" MBP, M1 16" MBP, M1 Mac Mini, or PD capable PSUs. You’d think they’d provide specs of the cable, again, seems like we are doing more research here through trial and error than they are providing information. If it’s 65W, then I can safely say my 65W and 100W PD capable USB-C cables don’t work. @Oitnu says above that he gets USB power on the M1 Air, so again, we are led to believe your M2 or my machines are less capable than an M1 Air? Support is beating around the bush here.
