I am playing chords/pads on the prophet 6 but I dont want the filter sweep to restart each time I play a new chord. I want to change chords but have the filter open and close slowly and it not start that cycle each time I change the chord? What am I doing wrong? is there a hidden setting for filter envlopes?
I donât mean to confuse things but I feel that this is very simple on other synths.
Essentially I just need to stop the filter envelope from triggering each time a new note is played. So essentially when I am playing legato, Iâd like the filter envelope to be where it was on the last note and not restart?
I got the Behinger model d recently and this was really easy to find in the manual but havenât found anything in the P6 manual as such.
Have you tried different key modes? The manual says these only work in Unison mode, which would be unfortunate. It sounds like youâre essentially looking for a âparaphonicâ mode, where all subsequent notes share the envelope/filter of the first note as long as it is held down.
Thatâs correct, Iâll try unison mode however you canât freely play chords this way⌠you can only play chords in unison by pre-selecting the notes and then pressing unison. However, this locks each note you press to the chord structure you pre-selected.
I re-read the above posts and I see that key mode is for unison only. Kind of a bummer.
Did you find a way to achieve the effect youâre looking for - other than an external control?
Iâm thinking of getting a P6 soon and would love to know.
It was easy on the Model D because thatâs a standard feature on monosynths. The P6 also has this behavior in its âmono modeâ, which is unison.
As far as I know, the behavior youâre asking for is very rare on poly synths â especially analog poly synths. You want the synth to treat its independent, per-voice filter envelopes as a single envelope controlled by a âpolyphonic legatoâ key mode. Itâs a cool idea, and Iâm sure some poly synths have it, but itâs the opposite of what most players want most of the time. Iâm only saying this to help you get past the âthis should be easy, whereâs the switch to turn it onâ mindset and think about more creative solutions.
If I was trying to get that kind of sound, Iâd turn filter envelope amount to zero, hook up an expression pedal and control the cutoff manually. Itâs not the same as âmono envelope modeâ since you lose programmable attack and decay times, but I bet you can get close enough with a little practice.
