Promoter integrity

It’s a fairly minor example, but this kind of thing does annoy me. Does this kind of thing happen a lot in other scenes?

An event, which I’ll not name, asks me to do a live set with around 9 months’ notice.

3-ish months before the event, I make an enquiry to firm up the deal, but apparently the budget is blown and my services are no longer required.

They could have told me earlier, but - hey ho!

Now though, they’re expecting to use the pages I admin to promote the same event, without contacting me first.

I work with a lot of promoters Worldwide & there are some ‘interesting’ characters out there with ‘unusual’ ethics & methods! They are in the minority however. Generally working with established promoters is relatively pain free as they know the score & are interested in repeat business.

New comers on the other hand are a major gamble, they often have very good intentions but get in too deep too early. (Alt-Fest anyone!!!) Still everyone has to start somewhere.

Get everything, (contractually), in writing & assume nothing
