I’m a noobile OT owner of two days now. I studied the instrument via forums, online tutorials, and the manual PDF for about two months before making the purchase, and I thought I had a good grasp on the hierarchical structure of the OT… until today!
I’m only just getting the hang of this beast, but I eventually plan to use it for three different bands I play in, in addition to a more electronic-oriented project of my own. I created five different projects under one set: one for each musical endeavor, plus one for a sort of experimental “playground” or sample workshop.
I attempted a jam session last night with reasonable results with one band. Today, I tried to begin work on a new song for that project. I was under the impression that a bank would serve as a “composition” or song. Now I’m not so sure. In bank 1, I had a thru machine that was receiving the output of a Kaossilator for that particular song. In bank 2, I added a thru machine for the same purpose, but the Kaossilator seemed to be operating under the parameters of bank 1 and would not respond to adjustments to the thru machine parameters of bank 2. What am I doing wrong here? On top of that, I found that changing the BPM in bank 2 changed the BPM of bank 1 as well. I intend to have different tempos for different songs and would prefer to have them saved, though I understand that manually adjusting the BPM is not a particularly arduous task.
It seems that banks do not function as independent compositions as I would like them to. Will I be better off making a new project for each song and creating a new set for each band I plan to use the OT with? I’m kind of leaning in that direction and wondering if there are any consequences I should prepare for regarding file management if I choose to go this route. It seems like the CF card could get messy that way.
