Crash course in pattern chains on the AR:

Fast way:
To make a new chain you press and release the bank group button and then press and hold the first pattern you want in the chain. Keep holding this pattern button and now continue to press (and release) one or more patterns you want in the chain. The order you select the patterns determines the order of the patterns in the chain.

If you want multiple steps in the chain to be the same pattern, like for example a pattern looking like this: P1, P1, P1, P3 and/or have the BD1 muted in the first two steps of the pattern chain you are best of creating and editing your chain in the song edit mode. (Gives you way better overview of what’s going on.)

The song mode edit way:
Go into song edit mode (function + song) and edit the song row that starts with __: Select the first pattern and then using the cursor keys you can set the position where you want your next pattern to be in the chain.

For quick and easy stuff I use chains but for anything more advanced I use songs instead.

Like so much on the Elektron A4 and AR it’s really frustrating at first but when you get the “aha” moment it’s dead easy.
