Program change from Rytm to Octatrack

Hey all,

Apologies if this has been covered before I can only seem to find people wanting to do it the other way as in Octatrack to Rytm…

I’d like to have Octatrack change patterns when Rytm does as I use Rytm as master clock in a way because overbridge keeps synced with daw perfectly.

I have set program change send in settings in Rytm and receive in Octatrack but no joy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Connect the AR’s MIDI Out port to the OT’s MIDI In port using a working MIDI cable.

On the OT:

In the PROJECT > MIDI > SYNC menu:

  • activate PROG CH RECEIVE,
  • set the associated channel number (Ch) to a specific number.

On the AR:

In the GLOBAL > MIDI CONFIG > SYNC menu, activate PRG CH SEND.

In the GLOBAL > MIDI CONFIG > PORT CONFIG menu:

  • set OUT PORT FUNC to “MIDI”,
  • set OUTPUT TO to “MIDI”.

In the GLOBAL > MIDI CONFIG > CHANNELS menu, set the PROGRAM CHANGE OUT CHANNEL to match the OT’s PROGRAM CH RECEIVE channel number (above).

Even when syncing only Elektrons, I found I have to specify a program change channel, auto doesn’t work.

It works, but IT ISN’T the AUTO CHANNEL!
Very confusing, just don’t choose it.

If AUTO is chosen the first MIDI channel used by the audio tracks, and not used by any of the MIDI tracks, will be used.

Default is 1 (MIDI > CHANNELS)
But :

If an audio track and a MIDI track share the same MIDI channel, the MIDI track will block the audio track from sending out data while the audio track will block the MIDI track from receiving data.

Still with default settings, if a midi track is set to ch1, AUTO becomes 2!
3 if another midi track is set to ch2, etc…
If midi tracks are set to ch 1-8, or if audio tracks channels are off, nothing is sent.

Conclusion : DON’T USE AUTO in MIDI SYNC page!
