I have a big problem with the implementation of the “Full Level” (MPC Term) functionality on the AR. The best thing about the AR is how you use pressure on pads to modulate params. It seems the AR recognizes two different kinds of hits. Strikes and presses. When you simply put your finger on a pad and press, you activate the after-touch but don’t trigger a “Strike” or “trigger the sound/voice”. So when I am holding function to get Full Level I still have to hit that pad quite hard to trigger the sound. The point of Full levels is to easily input notes at … full level without bashing the pads. I hope they can make a “press” activate a “Strike” when Full Levels is being held. Also there should be a latch for Full Levels. I do like how you can independently turn full level on for each track though.

I feel this deserves it’s own thread as I think it is a really big deal. Next to recording re-trigs this is the second biggest update needed on the AR IMO.

I’m actually thinking about writing Elektron about this one. Just wanted to see if others were being bugged by this. Also, if any of the Elektron dudes like @Dataline can chime in that would be dope.

use the triggers for “full level”… the pads when you want more expression

Hey, simple suggestion but a good one! It just feels wrong using the Trigs when you have such nice pads! You are right though, I should be able to live with this work around.

i actually like the trigs but my first electron box was the octatrack…

speaking of which… i wish there was an alternate “chromatic” mode that you could have 1-12 samples going over the pads. i swear id think the box was 100% perfect then

Just curious, have you tried disabling velocity to volume from each tracks settings? And if so, do you still experience this same behaviour with the pads?

Hey there thanks for this! I do mention this in my OP.
“I do like how you can independently turn full level on for each track though.”
That is what I was referring to there. Great feature, just not that practical for certain uses. It’s nice to just be creative and in the moment decide, I don’t need velocity sensitivity here, so Just hold down full level and input my notes. Staying in the flow. Good discussion here guys, thanks for the responses so far!

Ah, my bad, I thought you were referring to the function + pad technique… I have not used the retrig on my AR even once so far so have no firsthand experience on it’s behaviour tho.

Hey really sorry if I’m being confusing. I was actually referring to BOTH features. The entire implementation of “Full Levels”.
So I’ll try and re-explain. When you hold Func+Pad to trigger a “Full Level” strike you still have to hit the pad hard enough to trigger a hit. You cannot hold function and “press” the pad or it only triggers aftertouch data and not note trigger data. I want to be able to hold Func and simply lightly press a pad to trigger a full level note entry. I think that is more clear. JOB then mentioned using the Trig buttons for full level purposes, which is a really good work around. I would still like it if “Full Levels” worked as I explained though. I also just mentioned as a side, that I like the fact you can toggle full level on or off per track/pad, but this is not as intuitive as just holding function when you want a full level trigger.
