Problems when sequencing midi

Hello im having problems when sequencing external synths with my Octatrack MK2

When entering notes into steps I tend to hold the step and press yes in order to preview the sound. It seems like when I do this switching from different notes chromatically eventually it’s causes the synth to not work, almost like the synth is getting loaded with over lapping information or something like that. This seems to only happen with the analog synths I have.

When sequencing my 0-coast I’m often having to hold down the panic button (PGRM_B) which makes it work again but continuously doing this is discouraging.

When sequencing my TT-303 MK1 in midi mode the same problem comes up when entering and previewing notes in the midi sequencer I have to turn the synth off and on.

Once notes are in the sequence there are no problems with playback.

Has anyone else had this issue? I’m looking for a solution as soon as possible if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate some advice

Thanks

Step preview (func + yes) does cause problems if used too frequently too quickly. There is no note off command, in that operation, so some synths get stuck. Depends on the synth.

Double tap stop to cancel all outgoing midi commands.

Should be reported as a bug imho.

Pretty frustrating. But from what you’re telling me I just have to slow down previewing the trigs??

Basically yes.

If notes off are not sent at all with preview, I think slowing down won’t change anything. Without notes off, it is like sending several overlapping notes consecutively, whatever how you play them, fast or slow.
The number of notes you send matter.

If notes off are only sent after NOTE page LEN value, of course you may have to wait before LEN end.

Kinda depends how you work.
I play everything from a midi keyboard, so I dont use step preview on midi tracks very often. However, i do get the hanging note stuff one step preview occasionally. Xoxbox and SV1 are pretty bad for it.

Doesnt really bother me. Double tap stop, clear the stuck note. Move on.

Yes, it send ALL NOTES OFF messages, CC123 iirc.
But it may not work with some gear with a bad midi implementation.

Anyway, thanks, I will have to check a few things with OT when I come back!

Yeah the particular gear I mentioned always requires for me to turn the synths off even after double tapping stop.

I think I’m gonna buy a key step midi controller to use for this purpose I forgot using a controller avoids this issue

that would be the midi implementation of those synths, not an octatrack problem.

Yeah you’re not wrong. If i was to sequence these synths from something like ableton live or another hardware sequencer I highly doubt I would run into this issue though

Both the devices you mentioned have extremely poor midi implementation. I’d suggest you read their manuals before bagging the OT. CC123 is being used correctly.
