are you auditioning the MnM through the mixer or a Thru Machine ?
i think you set source on SRC3 as MAIN & Disable AB/CD
in saying that i’m assuming that the ‘you can always record on 8 tracks’ comment in the manual holds true for T8 set as Master !
not sure if fx will be recorded, will try myself
it works out fine, i’m just getting to know it, i think you need to use a through, but you can record the Track 8 buffer when set to Master and it will record the fx too !
You might have to use cue
i think he means internally, it does work, i tried it out as a ‘getting to know it’ exercise !
To see Track 8’s recorded wave, you need to load Recording8 into a flex machine on another track.
You can’t record on Track 8 when it is set to Master.
okay, just semantics, you can record track 8 because there are always 8 buffers ready to record - you just can’t load it on track 8 as it’s not a machine - but you can record with track 8, so yeah, ‘with/on’… just so the op doesn’t stop trying T8+MIDI/SRC3
hi guys, i don t own the octatrack but i m looking to buy one or an audio interface, if i understand this thread it s possible to record my analog rytm and virus ti setup directly in the octatrack, it could replace my mixer and audio interface? what are the con and for?
Tip: You can see the recorded wave by pressing the Track button of the Track that did the recording + Bank - if you are in the Record Setup Pages. No need to load up a Flex! And from the Wave, you can hit File and then Save and/or Assign to a Static.

Nice tip!
Yes - but you’ll need to assign enough memory to one track buffer to do this, see Page 38/39 of the Manual! I think you can record up to about 8 minutes, but I’ve never pushed it this far.
EDIT: If you want to record both pairs of inputs as one recording you’re going to want to use T8 as master channel (see Page 36 of the manual) and set your recording buffer to T8 not the individual inputs! I’ve just noticed you don’t actually own and Octatrack yet - if you would like me to verify this to make 100% sure let me know
Also note the tip from Rikrak above re. viewing the recording, I use this all the time and it’s possible to switch views and actually watch the recording being made using the same technique.
You may also want to have a look at the QREC and ONE2 recording options to quantise the recording - by this I mean recording quantised to bars or whatever you set it to, not quantising the actual audio!
It’s very powerful, but a bit weird at first until you get used to it - the key is to just keep doing it until it makes sense
