Can I use my Pro 3 like I used to with my pyramid…where I midi out to the OT, then OT midi back out to the Pro 3, and play the Pro 3 and record the midi notes that way?
I will use it as a controller to midi my other external synths but not sure if you can do this back to itself.

This is how I use my “large” synths. It works best if you can get the Pro 3 to send and recieve on different channels, or if the Pro3 is clever enough not to trigger a second copy of the notes you play (my Rev2 isn’t clever enough; some synths are).
I currently have my Juno 106 set up like it. It sends/receives on some MIDI channel. I set the Octatrack’s Auto Channel (Project -> MIDI -> Channels) to match. I also set up a MIDI track or two to send on that same channel. I set other tracks to match other synths, and connect MIDI THRU from the 106 to MIDI on something else, and set that something else to receive on another channel. If I also set an OT MIDI track to this other channel, I can choose which synth to play by choosing its MIDI Track.
you should be able to but I want to say at least with elektrons because they will send the note back live you need to turn local off on the keyboard of the pro 3 to avoid double triggers in your live playing.
I do this with the Rev2, but it also separates the knobs and buttons from the synth engine. They only work when you have the Rev2’s MIDI Track selected on the Octatrack (as with notes), but even them not every control works. It’s possible the Pro3 will have the same quirks (being another Sequential). Worth trying, to find out!
I think Pro 3 is the first of sequential to have separated the keys local and knobs local, I remember I wrote them really hoping for one little last update to the Pro 2 when I saw Pro 3 would have that feature but no dice. I don’t think sequential is one to dig into firmware on old products sadly.
My Rev2 is smarth enough lol I record with no problems.
Which sequencer do you use?
I use Cubase/Nuendo. (edit, I thought you are asking which DAW do I use, not the sequencer, sorry , tired as hell after a weeks work - so, I sequence REV2 via Octatrack, which I either program or input notes via REV 2 MIDI).
However, I quite often record midi into Oktatrack via REV2 and then play it back and lock midi parameters aand use lfo. Now, sometimes I use bitimbral mode, so I sequence two different REV2 layers.

Recently, I use DAW as a recording station almost exclusively, although I use Cubase/Nuendo for 20 years and its MIDI surpasses any other DAW. I heavily rely on it in orchestral arangements etc, but for my hardware setup, its just a recorder.
