I just changed up the way I have my gear all linked together. Basically sync up 4 boxes while allowing me to use mini kb (from OP-1) to play notes on specific channels on the MnM & A4.
I have the MnM as the master for sync with midi coming in from OP-1 (not receiving sync just getting notes in) and going out to AR (no notes coming in AR) then a midi thru to the A4 (notes allowed in) then a midi thru back to the OP-1 input (via Kenton midiusb).
Everything works great - I hit play on MnM and all synths are synced (including the OP1), but I can’t get program change messages to go out from MnM. Previously I was using my AR as the master and it would send program changes just fine. I’ve looked in the manual and messed with settings and can’t seem to get it to work.
anyone have any suggestions ? I’m so sad I want to jam and only have to pick patterns on one machine and have all of them follow!
oh sidenote: The reason I wanted the MnM as master is so I could use the sick Elektron sequencer to control the OP1 and also plock CC stuff to mess up the sound.
From MM manual:
“PRG CHANGE controls on which MIDI channel the Monomachine should send a program change message when patterns are changed. If set to OFF no program change messages will be sent when patterns are changed. When set to BASE, program change messages will be sent on the specified base channel when patterns are changed. Read more on how to set the base channel in section “MIDI CHANNELS” on page 89.”
You’ll also need to make sure Rytm is set up properly to RECEIVE that program change. That’s in the Rytm’s Global menu / MIDI Sync
From Rytm manual:
"PRG CH RECEIVE will when active make Analog Rytm respond to incoming program change messages, which is useful when wanting to select patterns externally. The MIDI channel that will listen to incoming program change messages is set in the MIDI CHANNELS menu, cov- ered on page 53.

MM doesn’t need to be master in order to sequence notes and CCs of external gear. It can be down the midi chain as a slave device and still send that information.
Thanks AdamJay - I just read your response and got it working within 1 minute ! Setup feels almost perfect right now … going to jam my face off in a bit.
What I missed was the prg channel. I set it to base on MM and has it set to AUTO on AR and 16 on A4. I lined them all up on the same channel (16) and zam ! worked perfectly.
Oh and in reference to the master or down the chain thing for the MM … I agree I could have AR or any of them as the master for sync … but still have MM sequence the OP1. However the OP1 would only get notes not sync - in this situation I want it to receive both sync and notes that way I can record stuff on the tape looping live while playing. Also, live you can cut chunks of your recorded material … paste them into sampler or drum synth and muck with it some more - SUPER fun.
My understanding of midi is pretty basic. I’m learning just by reading manuals and trial and error. I find the elektron manuals are great, but sometimes I miss a tiny detail and spin my wheels trying to figure it out.
Anyways, sometimes the joy and love of a machine or hobby comes from slugging it out and learning! Gonna post something of what I’ve been working on maybe tonight LOL First time sharing my music in a long time kinda scared and excited!
