I know how it works to change patterns via program change. But is there a way to make the A4 change presets via PC instead of it’s pattern?
That would be sooo dope. Maybe with Overbridge? Have no idea…
Not possible unfortunately. Though it really should be.
What do you mean by A4 “Presets”?? You can of course change the Kit by changing the Pattern.
I suppose you could copy and paste the pattern, and then change the preset on the new pattern on the a4. Then using MIDI you can change to the new pattern that is the same other than the sounds.
That should get you to the same result, though unfortunately through more steps. (and taking up more memory on the a4)
Thanks guys,
yeah the pattern change is the only workaround. Still bad in my case because the A4 sends pattern changes to my Octatrack. If it was the A4 alone that might work…
It’s a bad limitation in my opinion.
Thanks anyway for your ideas…
Still have no clue what you are talking about. The A4 doesn’t have presets. It has projects, kits, patterns, tracks and sounds. That’s the data structure. PC Midi changes the pattern. Each pattern is associated with a kit. You want to change only the kit by Midi PC? That’s not possible. But a pattern can be copy/pasted with a simple button combination and a different kit can be placed on that other location. No big deal.
You can disable ‘PROGRAM CHANGE RECEIVE’ on the Octatrack if you wish.
Hi @alfred: I am aware of the data structure. by presets I meant “sounds”. I just would love to change specific sound on specific tracks via midi/program change and not whole patterns. That’s it…
@PeterHanes: Yeah, I know. But fact is that I need to change pattern via program change. So it would get real messy if I change pattern again only for the purpose of sound/kit change in the A4…
Ok, I hear you. That would be more like the behaviour of a multitimbral synth. But the A4 works more like a groovebox with its PC Midi handling. Even though it can also be a multitimbral and polyphonic synth.
I guess for people who use external sequencers or who just play without any sequencers this option could make sense if the A4 is part of a bigger hardware setup. But as far as I know it doesn’t exist (yet).
@ laurentius, I assume you’d like to be able to do a LOAD SOUND (into the current kit) operation via a MIDI PC command. (Me too.)
It’s not currently possible, though it shouldn’t be difficult to add this functionality to the OS …
Send MIDI PC on channels 1-4 to perform the above LOAD SOUND (from the sound pool).
Send MIDI PC on the Perf/Auto channels to get the current behaviour (CHANGE PATTERN).
It could even be extended using Bank Select commands to access sounds from the +Drive.
Has a solution occured? It’s 2019, I’m dealing with the same thing…
No, because it’s not a bug, but a design decision by Elektron. Their devices simply don’t work this way (even in 2019).
If you want to control the used sound remotely (like on a “normal” synth), you have to change to another pattern with this sound set up (or use two tracks and toggle their mute states if that’s a possibility).
Multi Map?
