I recently installed an Infitronic INSV1009 (Amazon link) as it was a rackmount power strip with the features I was looking for, including separate switches for the sockets on the front and back.
What I notice is that some devices very briefly blink lights that come on when it has power. The blinking happens on regular basis, one pedal every 10 seconds or so and another every 40. I had something similar in the past when I used a smart power socket that I could switch in/off via Homekit, and suspected it would still pass through some current even when off. So it seems like the power strip is ‘leaking’ some current when switched off as well.
My guess is that this could not be good for my equipment, but perhaps a more educated person can comment on it before I decide to replace it.
…of course thats risky…each device can suffer from too much power BUT also from not enough power…if ur devices blink up from time to time, even when powered off, that’s NOT GOOD…
A good power strip should completely disconnect both neutral and live connections, and leave the ground connection intact. Many of the cheaper ones only disconnect one wire, though.
If you are in Europe, you can simply rotate the plug 180 degrees and see if the issue persists.
Can you measure what is happening exactly?
measure the wall outlet: live against ground and neutral, neutral against ground
disconnect the power strip and measure all 3 connections between input and one of the output, with the switch on and off
It might confirm that the power strip is crap, or reveal a problem with your power connections, or even a stray current in one of your devices/PSUs.
FWIW: A couple of years go I rented a house where one of the light outlets had a steady voltage of ~20v between the neutral connector and ground. The landlord said it’s too expensive to fix, so he didn’t
I spent 5 minutes looking at this picture of your power strip, and I still could not figure out how the connections are supposed to work, either the angle is messed up, or that is a 3d rendering without any relation to the actual thing:
Thanks, didn’t have time to measure all of that, but I did see 3-5V on the plugs of the strip even when the front & back switches were set to off and nothing else connected. I’ve taken another power strip from another rack and tested it and that draws 0V and doesn’t make the pedal blink. I’l return the Infotronic.
