Wondering are there any interesting polyphonic touchplate instruments or just controllers around? I know about Haken, etc… but maybe there are alternative less known devices?
Enjoy playing my Easel and would love to have something with the same feeling and response but also polyphony.
If you have an iPad, you can try MorphWiz which was to some extend inspired by the Continuum.
I know the Microfreak can play chords, does anyone know if the keyboard would allow polyphonic playing if controlling something else via midi?
Yeah, love it! As much as other “touch” app like Moog etc…
The only problem is iPad size : ) Plates are too small…
If only I could have 5 feet iPad…

How about two 'freaks and a MIDI merge box? Still cheaper than a TKB.
Elta Solar 50 has 50 oscillators, and Hyve Synth has 60 of them. VCA per finger, I think. Not quite what you were thinking of, though. A good MIDI controller would be something different. Linnstrument is sort of similar, but with a silicon surface and using pressure sensing rather than surface area for “velocity” or “z-dimension”, whatever you want to call it. Madrona Soundplane might be closer, but that’s made of wood! Good luck. The Continuums are really nice. The iPad is probably the cheapest easiest digital analogues to a polyphonic touchplate controller.

The SoundPlane is amazing. If it is within budget and you can get your fingertips in one, absolutely do so. (I don’t have one, but when I lived in Seattle, I demoed it at every opportunity)

The sensel morph is pretty sweet little controller. I have the Buchla thunder overlay.
Its fully MPE so its fun on soft synths or other polys

From the manual:
“If you play chords on the MicroFreak, either with the keyboard or using the sequencer, everything will be transmitted via MIDI including aftertouch and velocity. The four note paraphonic limitation does not apply here: if you play a ten note chords [sic] all of that data will be transmitted over MIDI.”

I’ve touched it at the SB19, liked it, but as far as i remember it was not as quite responsive and expressive as let’s say buchla or even ipad (ipad btw has quite a horrible delay, so not possible to play “stacatto” stuff really )…
