Some really beautiful music coming from this box…
Ahhh…crap…just found it in stock and one of the places is just down the road. Feeling so weak after watching Ben’s video. HAHAHAH
Do it! Do it!!
this was the best thing I’ve heard come out of the Play, the funny thing is Benn’s first demo of the Play was definitely not my cup of tea, but this was great… he shouldn’t give it away on patreon he should release it himself.
for you guys with both the Play and the digitakt, is there anything you prefer about the Play besides the randomization features?
I have and love them both! I’d have to think about your question, definitely pros and cons to each, but incredible machines and super fun to jam on!
Just a couple things: 1. Being able to see every step on every track is nice (up to 16 steps at once of course). 2. Being able to affect multiple tracks at once. With Control All it’s all or nothing. On the Play you can select any amount of tracks you want to change parameters on. Also parts of tracks can be included. You can grab groups of steps along with full tracks.
that’s interesting, does it have the control all realtime sample slot lfo via knob feature like the digitakt, also can the Play’s version of control all be recorded into the sequencer?
Yes and no. There are no LFO’s. But you can select however many steps or tracks you want and use Randomization, which has settings for samples in folder, and samples in pool. The thing with Randomization is that it only randomizes once, but you can keep refreshing it, and if you come across something you like and want it permanent, then you can burn it in. Another option is under Chance, you can set it to random sample, and I think that may randomize to samples within that folder. So if a step has a hat, and it is in a folder of hats, then it will randomly select samples from that folder.
also can the Play’s version of control all be recorded into the sequencer?
Sure, you could select a few tracks or steps and change some parameters, and those tracks will be affected unless you want change it at some point. I guess that is similar to Control all. And of course Ranomizion is a little different, as described above. There is also a Live Record function. So lets say you select a few tracks and do a filter sweep with live record on, it will record that.
Is it possible to trigger patterns externally with prgm changes?
I have a feeling random and chance will be built upon too, like more random random and evolving random. I hope so anyway! And more control over reverbs and delay. And applying more than one chance parameter at a time!
thanks @HoldMyBeer
@ddiamond84 I hope so, that would be cool if you could keep what you like and keep on going…
Organising the Folders properly is vital for the random function, as far as I’m concerne it works up to a certain degree and not always useful as a result so is good to get variations of the same sample or in my case Glitchy wavs ect. I wish I could select from the Sample menu which folder will be my Kick and Snare and Hihats because that is a bit tedious in my view as it seems the structure for the BEAT function has to stay that way (?) and wish for a MI Grids Generator for it.
Is there really no way to preview a sample when the sequencer is running? Sounds like a big flow-stopper to me?
The SD card on the Play v the fixed 1gb memory on the Digitakt would be a big one.
hey can anyone give me a quick heads up on what midi polyend receives? like could i connect a device like my faderfox ec4 and have extended controls of fx or similar? i didnt find a midi implementation chart in the manual sadly.
Yes hold down a pad while you search through the loaded samples
Anyone using the Play with a Motu M4?
I am getting lots of rf noise on M4 input channels 1/2 since they are not balanced outs and using M4’s 3/4 inputs are super quiet and even cranking the levels up sounds like there is a low pass filter on the audio.
I am using the supplied Play splitter and tested with both balanced and unbalanced cables. Same issues.
Is anyone getting good results recording the Play through an audio interface?
Is this bad boy out states side yet? SW still rocking the preorder.
Someone earlier in the thread mentioned Vintage King had them in stock, so I was able to snag one a couple of days ago.
