Agree everyone is different. Maybe you can just make a certain way of organization (this is what i meant by initial mixing decisions) , row 1 kick row 2 snares 3 hihats. Something like that, every time you make a new track stick to the same and it should not be too bad. Plus you have 16 variations per pattern , so even if you had to make changes just select the track and make the changes, switching back and forth should be good!
nah I’m grand the way I work. it’s one of my favourite pieces of gear ever tbh. Just adding my 2c about a few issues imo. doesn’t stop me writing some pretty gnarly sh1t on it daily and lovin it. saturation to the max. let chaos ensue
I would be doing ambient type stuff and 4/4.
How long can a stereo sample be? Is 64 steps really the maximum?
From the manual 3 minute max sample time stereo.
I’m not sure play/p+ is what you’re looking for based on your comments.
If you are looking for long sample stuff recommend deluge or octatrack sort of gear!
Sequencing wise how does it compare to Pioneer Squid?
Easier, friendlier or more cumbersome ?
Thanks a lot!
Any MC-101 / MC-707 / SH-4d owners here? How do you feel the Play+ synth engines compare to Roland’s?
I’m torn between getting a Play+ and an Mc-707… I know the mc-707 has a lot more FX, but if the raw synth tones are in any way comparable the feature set of the Play+ would win hands down.
Get the MC707
I don’t own a mc107 but the synths on the play+ are fantastic. I like it a lot.
I say this as the biggest fan of Polyend: not a lot synths can get anywhere close to Roland’s ZenCore engine.
I’ve tried an MC707 and couldn’t get into the workflow, but the synth engine is unreal.
Hmm… Maybe an MC101 and an original Play are the way to go…
I have the Play+ but was considering getting a MC101 to go with/sample into my TE KO2. The Tracker mini might also be an option once the synths arrive for it.
I’m trying to go 100% cordless (no plugs) and portable
I used to have the MC707
I 100% agree. Roland’s ZenCore is amazing. I sold 707 for the same reason – bad workflow, but sound is top notch.
The synths are already on the tracker plus. They aren’t on the tracker mini yet.
edited - thanks
As others have said the MC101/707 has a great synth engine but awful workflow
Although I’ve not used the synths too much yet on the Polyend Play+ what I have messed with and heard they really do sound great too, plus you get a number of different engines and options, Polyend are also going to be updating the firmware with new engines too.
Honestly, I’ve yet to use a groovebox that comes close to putting down ideas as quickly as on the Play+ and with usb c audio/midi, I’m going to start hooking it up with Loopy Pro to create a ton of seamless loops too.
The randomisation and action algorithms are killer for one shot samples, I just wish it played nicer with sample loops and the sample pool memory was abit larger like the Digitakt 2 to throw a shit ton of samples into a project.
Some folks will argue on here that they can create awesome loops from their ipad apps and that may be, but there is no apps that I know of that does what the Play does with one shots.
I own both, and have made tutorial series for both.
I think the workflows are very different, and it will really depend on what you’re looking for. Feel free to look up my name Ron Cavagnaro on youtube and see all of the workflow videos I’ve made for each gear.
I think the play+ synths are amazing and have their own sound, not sure how to explain it without using “cliche terms” like it sounds creamy- I know that doesn’t help, but you can watch my demos / tutorials going over each parameter. Out of the two, I think more glitching/happy mistakes can be had with Play+
On mc707 it is just a great gear as well, the workflow is basic, awesome, and gets great results if you know what you’re doing.
In summary as owning both, they are both great in their own, and if I had to choose between the two that would be a very hard decision. (That’s why I own both!)
Got so many projects from the both the OG and the Play+, I need to start cranking some of them out and update some of them with the inbuilt synths.
Just running through a 1 bar loop here, changing up samples on the fly with some randomisation and using the perform mode.
Thinking of combining it with an MPC One+ or Keys 37 to sequence & record the Play+ synths into.
For the love of God, how do I keep the sample on the chosen track?
Like say I chose kick x on 1st track and snare y on second. Now I go back to 1st track, but the steps I put in still play the snare y. Wtf?
Sounds are per step, not track. So whatever sample you select can go on any pad on any track.
I just copy and paste which I find faster than reselecting the sample
Yeah that sucks. They should have made it optional imo. Sound per step is cool sometimes but locking a track to one sample should be an option too.
