It seems that at the polyend backstage, every promising improvement idea is consistently being rejected.

Polyend/ Piotr (hope I spelled that correctly) definitely has their/his own vision and I have to keep reminding myself how much I respect that… , it’s just we are living in the era of no sampling, no slicing, not enough sample memory, people fighting for songmodes, not enough project memory etc… and all anyone ever talks about is what is good for live performance… for samplist and people who like to sample making sample based music it just happens to suck… look at the toraiz 16, or any number of devs… but the reasoning everyone always gives for everything is that this instrument isn’t about what you want it’s about live performance… and it will probably get worse , it will probably now start turning to this instrument isn’t for you it’s all about Ai etc…
Totally agree, Polyend have their vision for the Play and one has to respect that, so you can either use the device for what it’s strengths are or move on, simple as that.
Looking forward to see where the Play goes and also what they develop in the future.
Also check the history of the Tracker. They added a lot over time. I trust them.
I trust them too, hence my ownership of the Medusa, tracker, and prior owner of two Plays but like my little sister whom I also trust and whom never braids my hair like I ask her to, and thinks I should just be grateful she’s braiding it at all, I walk a fine line
I know this has been said many times but people keep forgetting including me that you purchase gear for what it is and not for what you want it to be that’s why researching the product before is so important. I think too many of us make the wrong decision and then blame the company.
Hmm to those who do not like their play, I recommend to try to operate it differently than your expectations. You can really automate a lot and I think it is a blast to use! I understand that we can’t mold things as much as you would want with a synth but I really do think this gear is special - I’ve had a lot of really good results using even genre packs that I simply think sound bad, until I mangle it and have fun. Either way, it is a cool box as is! I am working on tutorial series maybe I will post the next video on here!
agree with the sentiments but in this day and age almost every release these days is incomplete, with devs often needing to just get the product out and letting customers know ahead of time about unfinished features and known issues… and sometimes if we’re lucky we even get a roadmap by some wonderful devs out there so imo that notion doesn’t hold up as well as it used to… but I wish that it was the case that devs only release finished product and that feature request were just the icing on the cake.
Just wanted to mention here is my second workflow video - it’s pretty long but you can skip around with the timestamps. In this video I go over a workflow option you could consider that I call “setting up a sound palette”. This could make it easier to set up a row of rhythm / instruments in pads so that you can create easily from pre-setting each pad up. Also I go over performance mode. I think it would be a good idea to check it out if you are interested in how Play works, or if you are disappointed with how you are working with Play this could possibly help a little.
These were an enjoyable watch.
Thanks!!! I have maybe 1 - 2 more episodes planned! We will see !
That’s … stunning … end result and the technique
Hey guys I just made episode 3 of my overview and workflow series! I think there may be some tips and tricks that may help current owners, and shows some ideas for people interested in how Polyend Play works! Includes melodic palettes, beat generation, master FX
1.4 FIRMWARE UPDATE — Looks like we’ve got a piano roll! I will explore and planning on making a video tonight for it. Here is the announcement video from polyend!
Picked one up last week. Extremely impressed with it.
If you ignore specs and lack of traditional modulation options for one second and think of it as more of a generative sequencer with additional sample playback, you start to realize that it’s one of the best grooveboxes out there.
Beat fills are awesome. So good to just quickly get a beat down and then evolve it with chance, random samples, and effects. New piano roll is an excellent touch, especially as you can play polyphonic lines using multiple tracks.
Seems like a lot of people aren’t too keen on this one. But IMO it’s the most fun I’ve ever had with a piece of gear. It just clicks for me. More so than my Digitakt, M8, and MC707. Only the Digitone comes close.
Surprised to see it doesn’t get too much attention online. It’s the best $800 I’ve ever spent.
it’s so different from the others that you mentioned that it’s not that surprising imo, it’s kind of not really comparable to those others…definitely more of a niche product compared to the others imo
You can modulate a lot with the “Play” functionality. You can really shape sounds with the filters, attack, decay, sample start/end and repeat types. It doesn’t have the LFOs, etc. but you adjust by ear and hand which ends up being a lot of fun. I’ve started to really love it too! I was disappointed with the Play on launch, but it’s grown on me. I still wish it could sample.
Now I want a play mini that is a four row and 8 column sequencer with 4 knobs to use alongside the tracker mini.
this^!
How is the new random+ stuff. İ couldn’t find anything on it online.
