Playback Trig Vs Recorder Trig

Im trying to sample through my octatrack and i think the issue is I’m mixing up my playback vs recorder trigs…how do you access a playback trig vs a recorder trig?

I’m trying to sample manual instead of using the trig button, but after that I just get dead silence.

Im following the youtube tutorial identically and it’s all silence.

sampling from iPhone to octatrack, all volumes at max, DIR at 127.

this is driving me insane.

Function + Bank (Edit) will display the track trig edit page, showing a graphic for each available set of trigs:

  • trigs (playback)
  • slide
  • swing
  • record trigs

Use the up/down arrows to highlight the appropriate track.

As you can see, record trigs are completely separate from playback trigs, and need to be set independently.

Place steps on the record trig row to start recording at that point. Red record trigs are triggered to record input every time the sequencer passes the step.

Use Function + Step to set a one shot record trig for a step (the colour should be yellow, or flashing red/yellow if the trig has been activated once).

One shot record trigs can be re-armed at any time by pressing Track + Yes.

Also important is to set the appropriate input for record trigs. You can do this by holding a step and pressing A-B / C-D record buttons. The input assigned to a trig is indicated by the input LED lit red.

See page 88 of the manual for more info.

The next bit I’m not 100% sure of - perhaps someone with more experience can help.

When a playback trig and a record trig both occupy the same step, you may find that only some of the recording is audible until a full cycle of the current pattern has completed to trigger the playback again.

My workaround for this is to use micro-timing to move the playback trig ahead of the record trig by 1/192.

Not sure if this is the correct way to do it, but it seems to work.
