Continuing researching on Modulation sources I’m playing today with the VELOCITY MOD.
As we know modulating 5 parameters on the Analog Four could lead to a completely different sound.
So the idea here is that we have a sound already recorded into a track and then we use the AF keyboard to play live, a completely different sound on the same track (*1).
The key here is to have the two synth lines using completely different velocities, for instance we need the recorded synth line to be exactly at 64 so PLOCK all used triggers’s VEL to 64. Because we don’t want the level to be affected by the velocity we need to set: Velocity to Vol = OFF (Sound SETTINGS).
Now we can go to the VELOCITY MOD page and at first, set the modulation to “BIPOLAR”. This way velocity 64 makes no changes to the sound. To turn On “BIPOLAR” just click on the Level Knob while in VELOCITY MOD.
On the Note page set VEL to 127, then on the VELOCITY MOD page let’s choose 5 parameters and lets modulate them while playing on the AF keyboard. If you are a good modulator you will achieve pretty neat results.
When we stop playing the AF we can listen to the original sound. Playing on the AF keyboard will bring the new one again till we stop playing, and again…
As an extra tip, remember that you can change by hand the VEL setting on the Note page allowing for more expression and articulations for the live played part.
And at last but no least, remember that this can be done on all tracks, so we can have access to 4 more sounds to play live (*1), and in case you didn’t figured it yet, you can use this technique on the FX channel so the keyboard will act as a temporary switch that will allows you to change to a different FX configuration while pressed. (I’ll wrote a post with the step by steps later).

(*1) At the cost of temporary muting the tracks’ original sound. Anyway I need to investigate this technique used together with different polyphonic settings, me be the results can be surprisingly rewarding.
