I’m using a Novation X-Station as my midi controller for my monomachine. It’s pitch bend wheel works great on track 1 (if I set midi channel to 1 or 9). But, pitch bend doesn’t work on an of the other tracks. Here’s how to recreate my problem:
[ol]
[li]Load a blank kit.[/li]
[li]Select track 1.[/li]
[li]Using a midi controller. Hit some notes and pitch bend.[/li]
[li]It works like expected.[/li]
[li]Select track 2,3,4,5,or 6.[/li]
[li]Repeat step 3.[/li]
[li]No pitch bend.[/li]
[/ol]
I went to the assign page on each track and made sure all tracks are set up like track 1. I must be doing something terribly dumb, but can’t figure out what.
Another problem that I noticed, it doesn’t send pitch bend on the midi out. But, I expected this since it doesn’t record pitch bend.
Assuming you have not made any changes to the channel settings on the MNM, all you should need to do is set the X-Station to channel 9, which is the Mono’s autochannel. From there you should be able to select a track and play as normal from the X-Station, including the midi channels. Let me know if you still have problems after that.
I have no problems playing midi notes on any of the tracks. It’s just pitch bend is only recognized on track 1. It doesn’t matter if I use channel 1 or 9. It just seems odd. I even tried another midi controller and the same thing. I get the midi notes on all tracks, but pitch bend is only responsive on track 1 of mono. I r-checked all the assignments for the joystick on each track and they are the same are track 1. It’s really bizarre. I’m hoping there’s something I’m overlooking.
Might be far-fetched, but as the problem is a bit weird, I’ll come out with this:
could the X-station have settings for the pitch bend channel separately?
If you have any other controller with a pitch bend, you could easily locate if it’s a problem with the MnM or the controller… Or hook the X-station to a DAW and see if it responds to MIDI channel changes appropriately.
I feel like an idiot now. After RTFM for X-station, pitch bend is sent on a separate channel that you specify. I found this nugget in small print. I got to the pitch bend edit page and voila it worked.
I’m a much happier camper now. Surprised I haven’t found this earlier. O plugged in my bass station ii and it worked perfectly as well.
Thanks for all of the help! Now, to read more of the X-Station manual to get the pitch bend on the current midi channel. Phew! I’m glad there wasn’t something wrong with my monomachine.
