Pickup machines monitoring

Hi fellas.

Can someone explain to me on recording setup 2 page (C/D button) what the a/b and c/d options are? In the manual they say for monitoring the signal to be recorded, but when I turn them up they do nothing. I always have to setup a thru machine for monitoring.

Any help would be appreciated.

What do you have connected to your OT’s inputs?
What are your INAB and INCD settings on RECORDING SETUP 1 page?
Are you changing the active track away from the track with the Pickup machine?
