Pickup Machine stop/start behaviour

Hi there,

is there a way to stop and then start again a recorded loop without deleting it? Whenever I stop it and hit play it records from scratch and the old material is lost - sometimes this is very inconvenient eventhough I understand the logic behind it…

…let’s not talk about pick ups…they’re pretty poor by now…

but if you wanna overdub, you better switch to overdub in the recording setup…

but everything you want, you can switch in the recordoptions…function + rec ab/rec cd…two different pages of options…overdub mode and one2 should be the right options for you…

but dont expect too much…the pick up machines are more a nerdy give away, than a serious tool at this state of os mind…

was a bit shocked to realise, that every cheap guitar pedal got more looper skills than those pickup machines…

and for all new ot users, like me, too, the best advice is, to read that damned manual at least three times…
so much to skip, so much for enlightning…

Still I don’t find the overdub mode in the options, only one, one2 and hold…

There’s no way to stop and then start in overdub mode with pickup machines. You can of course jump from record to overdub or to play, but once you hit stop, the only options are play or record (not overdub).
Maybe look to flex machines or to using multiple tracks to achieve what you want.

The only hope might be the HOLD recording mode for pickup machines. I didn’t get a chance to test it this morning, but since every time you press (and HOLD) the Rec AB button it overdubs, that mode just might preserve the buffer contents after pressing STOP.

If that doesn’t work (i.e. the first time you press Rec AB the buffer is cleared) then there’s definitely no way to do it with just 1 pickup machine track.

here, it simply leads to stepsalad, no matter how many steps i nail down in recording length…well, at least in most cases…useless.

let’s face it…layering some microrecordings to freak around with it in the studio is all you can do with pickups these days…

don’t dare to use them in a serious performance!..they will let you down for sure…

and i bought the octatrack in first place for beeing a playback machine AND a looper…

let’s see what 2015 can give us…1.3…2.0…or the next new machine that also needs some support…

pickup machines in one2 mode pressing the track trig will restart play back with out overdubbing.or you can use midi note 64 to stop/restart pickup machines

I think the original poster’s intent/question was being able to stop a recording, then start it again in overdub mode. IOW - preserve the content the next time you choose to record.

I don’t believe (OP correct me if necessary) that the problem was how to stop and restart playback, since that functionality actually works.

Oh yeah,
well when i used to use the ehx 2880 i would mute rather than stop so i could go straight to overdub.this is normal behaviour for most loopers.

That’s an excellent (and easy to implement) solution.
So, start recording, switch to play and then when you don’t want to hear it - mute, then switch to overdub and unmute when you want more.
The added benefit of that is everything stays nicely in time.
