Longtime OT user, but relatively new to Pickup machines. I’m trying to use a Pickup Machine with recording triggered via a Record Trig on the Record pages. That’s how I need it, as opposed to manually starting or stopping record.
The bug I think I’m seeing is that the Record Trig does not seem to actually take effect until I’m viewing that track with the Pickup Machine on the UI. i.e. if my Pickup machine is on Track 5, and I have Track 1 in focus on the screen, and I hit play, that Record Trig does nothing AFAICT… Track 5’s icon does not indicate that recording is taking place.
If I then just tap Track 5 to view it, the Record trig will take effect the next time it’s hit on the sequencer.
Is this expected? I really want the Pickup Machine to start recording without needing to be “in focus”.
Confirmed. Forgot that.
Expect the unexpected with Pickups. If you don’t use overdub just use Recorders / Flex.
It is possible to trigger Pickups with midi tracks, midi loopback.
“Confirmed” as in it’s a bug, or it’s expected? Is this documented anywhere? It’s really confusing.
The only reason I’m using Pickups here is because I want the crossfade they do via FIN FOUT. With Recorders/Flex FOUT extends the length of your record loop, which is not what I want.
Ok so you’re using overdub to do so.
Expected bug ?
I confirmed rec trig doesn’t work if the track isn’t selected.
Ask Elektron if you wish, devs who made the Octatrack are gone…
Coming from Boss loopers I gave up with Pickups and I use Rec / Flex.
Thanks, I think I’m going to be doing the same.

Pickups were brought with an update, kinda hack with flaws.
It does the job for some users, not for me : if rec length isn’t defined, tempo can be messed up with Pickups, whatever are settings (even with QREC set to 1 bar, if you record 5 bars, big mess).

Hi, I haven’t been here for a (long) while but am starting to use the OT again, as a live looper. I made a tutorial to use flex in order to circumvent pick-up machine shortcomings and erratic behaviour some years ago that involved the use of midi loopback. This might be of some help here. Here it is: Pickup Machine using flex

Is there no way to override the octatrack auto-detecting tempo with a “primary” pickup machine capture? I ask because this whole “primary” definition comes not from a deliberate user action, but as a result of “instantiating the first pickup machine”.
Only way I know is to have a defined recording length (RLEN, 64 steps max).
If you use RLEN = MAX and if you use QREC = 16 steps and record 3 bars : tempo messed up. You have to record power of 2 lengths : 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, etc…
I can’t rely on that, I don’t count well when playing. Works well for me on regular loopers.
