Pickup confusion

OK cool, I was actually trying to record 8 bar loops (128 step) with a PUM without it changing the bpm, which I believe is impossible. Any time I wait past 64 steps and press the rec button later it halves the OT tempo

with these settings:
RLEN=MAX
TRIG=ONE2
and
QREC=PLEN

(and I’m not gona record another master PU loop first just to keep the BPM set, that wastes a track and takes time)

I could record a long 128 step loop with a flex machine np, but I like to have the AB/CD sound go through fx.

Not impossible.
But as I said it is safer to use a defined length like RLEN 64.
For 128 steps, you can divide BPM by 2, use Master Scale X2.

What is pattern length ?

do you mean, if I want to record a loop at 140bpm I set it to 70bpm and the master scale will even that out? but the PU keeps doubling/halving the bpm. I’m confused on how I can record an 8 bar loop with a PUM without it changing the bpm.

I had been using 128 steps

@Tapepusher Did you get this sorted with qrec=plen etc or whatever?

not yet, I need to attack the issue more clinically to understand it. I know that qrec=plen did not solve it anyway. I may give up and accept 4 bar loops with PUMs but it would be so sweet to figure out 8.

the original tempo has to be between 85 and 170 theoretically. I experienced it differently with 80.7 - 161.4 bpm.

Out of that range, tempo is halve or doubled…:joy:
