So having had to use a Logic Piano plugin that was pretty average I was wondering what the best Piano VSt is out there, and does anyone have any recommendations or links showing them in action?
I’m going to have a crack at Whuthering Heights next so need something good sounding for the Piano
modart pianoteq is pretty good too. i like to layer it with something like una corda, as pianoteq is fuller, but sample libraries seem to have a more lively character.
Yeah, it took me a while before I actually played with it myself(I have Komplete Ultimate, so it just came with it) because it sounds in the same vein as video games based off a movie.
I love the Malmsjö acoustic grand, such a mellow, warm sound. Cannot rem anymore what format it originally was in, have converted it to NI Kontakt 4 years ago…
Also If you like EPs Keyscape is absolutely mind blowing.
In the package you will also find a gorgeous C7 grand with crazy dynamics and 2 vintage uprights, but keyscape comes with a limit of 64 voices. Could be a problem depending on what you are trying to achieve.
Here is 2 demos with some of the best players out there.
I’ve no subjective view on whether Arturia’s Piano V is absolutely or relatively good, it’s not something I have issue with or great expectation of
But what I do like about it, and it may not be unique, is that it is modelled, so you have a lot of flexibility and intrinsic playing dynamics rather than layers
Will a modelled acoustic instrument ever sound as good as a sample of the real thing ? probably not, but it does offer other clear advantages … having said that, endlessly tweaking a piano all day is not where it’s at for me either … if it had a ‘prepared’ piano model that allowed that degree of tweaking I might, but i 'd sooner load up some samples in any case
But, there’s definitely a lot of flexibility (and midi control) in this which may be a buzz-kill or perfect depending on your perspective
Anyway, here, as it happens, is Cenk’s old colleague from the LMS doing a walkthrough of some of the params, keep in mind that all of this is midi controllable
