For me, the phrase “It makes a good effects unit.” I’ve heard this repeatedly about the SP404mkii. Translation, “If you end up hating the work flow, or cannot remember all the special button combinations, or don’t have the time and energy to tackle the learning curve, it makes a good effects box.”
I bought (under influence of GAS) the SP404 with this as the sole excuse because the sampler in it doesn’t really do any the things I need a sampler to do to be useful. In reality, I haven’t found any use for the thing in the 1.5 years I’ve had it. So yeah, looks like a phrase that should scare one away
I love getting stuff on eBay these days. The baked-in nature of this phrase, AI-generated descriptions, the fact it auto-fills new listings with previous similar ones, sellers becoming very noticeably more and more disingenuous… Great buying experience.
Having said all that, I did just buy an OT off of reverb that was described as opened but never used, unwanted gift blah blah blah for a pretty decent price and it turned out to be bang on.
