Phase IV synthy sci-fi stuffs

One of my first full tracks using the Analog Four & RYTM. Everything is those two boxes of lushness except for the strings at the end and the overall mixing & mastering (done in Ableton).

I loved it! That kind of cinematic sci fi sound is a huge influence to me. Sounds like it could be on the Mass Effect soundtrack.

Makes me want to make some more long sci fi pads with the Analog Four now. So many possibilities for subtle movement of the sound with all the mod destinations.

As for the Rytm, did you use any samples or is this more of the Analog side?

Re: the RYTM, I got some Linn Drum samples and then layered them with analog sounds to give them some more depth - I love that about the RYTM. You can just fatten something up with some extra oomph and gel them into a new fuller sound.

So the kick, snare, rim and hats all have a layer of analog under them / or leading them (with the kick).

Thanks for the info on the Rytm. I’m very interested in getting one. Mostly so my musical partner can trigger the sounds from an electronic drum set and I can tweak them while he plays. I really like the idea of running samples through a analog filter and amp as I like to do alot of effects processing on drum samples, but then running them through that analog circuity should warm them up a bit.

Perhaps you know so I’ll ask since I’m here and writing already, is it possibility to have Velocity settings affect what sample is loaded or some of the sample processing, like attack or anything else? It would make for a more exciting drum performance, but even if velocity only effects the analog percussion I suppose I could work around it.

I’m not a huge fan of the filter, it can be a bit ‘whistley’ at high resonances but samples do seem to sound better coming out of the machine. It has a warmth for sure.

You can’t rig the velocity in that way… Though if you could rig the drum velocity to send a custom Midi CC value then you could map that to the performance pad CC and then control the sample that way…

Thanks for the info. It’s the same filter as filter 2 in the analog four right? I always liked the way it sounds, it gets really “whoopy” when modulating the filter cutoff with a lfo. Hows that for non musical terms to describe musical things. But yeah, it can be pretty whistling. But not nearly as much as filter one.

Too bad about velocity not doing much… I suppose I could do some midi trickery to send CC’s Perhaps some third party program that auto converts certain notes to note + CC. I’d assume it was possible although it’s probably not a big deal as long playing notes affects volume at the very least. I was going to have the AR over on my rig so I could change things while he was playing the drum set, I guess I’ll just do it by hand.
