Pattern trigging in plays free mode

Plays free question,

If i want to trig 64 independent sequences from 64 external buttons/keys, do i have to send a midi track trig message + a pattern change message (including part change)?

Do i need to send 8 trigs at once for a whole “manual pattern” to start ?

Does it work reliably in live context?

i suppose the 2/16 chain behavior setting “lag” applies?

i) sounds right to me, pattern change first though, however, there’s no remote way to stop a single track, so i don’t know what happens when you dial up a new one on a track that’s already sounding, i guess it just takes over just fine
ii) i’d expect so, that’s how i did it
iii) i set up some plays free multitrack control w lemur and it worked fine for me, just frustrating that there’s no midi stop per track, you have to do it manually Track+Stop

you mean the next track has to wait the end of previous track?

I’m not in front of my OT right now, but make sure you look at the behaviour of the START SILENT and TRIG MODE settings in the PATTERN SETTINGS menus when you’re playing with this kind of thing.

ok.

if i want to trig the 8 tracks, i have to send 8 midi messages after pattern change?

i guess so. makes sense to me, never tried … (re other post) i don’t think there’s a necessity to wait as such, i was just commenting that there’s no remote control of individual track stop

but if you go in pattern setting menu, you can reduce the pattern jump up to 2 steps. It kind of works fluidly when trigging your pattern manually.

In plays free mode can you not stop tracks via MIDI by setting them to “one2” or “hold”? I never use plays free tracks but thought I’d mention this.

ok, i should have been a bit clearer, it’s possible to stop a track playing, but it’s not possible to stop a machine playing (if it’s looping away) - so you have to reach for Track+Stop to allow the rest to play on and this command isn’t available over MIDI that i’m aware of
