Hi all,
Is it possible to play patterns in sequence automatically. This would be handy when making whole tracks as the patterns are a maximum of 64 beats. It’s great to trigger patterns live but auto would be handy when composing.
Forgive me if it is a naive question but I am new to the OT and can’t find anything on this in the manual.
Thanks
haven’t got there yet myself, but isn’t the pattern arrangement done in the Arranger (Fn+Pattern), not sure yet if it’ll be as well specced as on the A4, well it certainly doesn’t seem to have a song mode

you can chain some patterns by pressing e.g. PATTERN+A01>A02>A04>A07
that means: keep pressed the patterns one after the other in the order you need them to play
pag.78

This is the classic Elektron method (available also on MD and MM).
Anyway…
I suggest you to stick with the Arranger, because it has some neat functions to mess around with a track composing.

cool
- never knew that, 190 pages of dry reference manual can be hard to conquer when you’re still learning !

^indeed…i think ,since the first OS release, the manual got something like 90pages more than the original 0.99 manual

^ I’ve watched all the tutorial videos and read Merlin’s guide a few times (and feel like I’ve spent the last couple years living inside the manuals for the MD and MNM), but the OT manual is so dry that it is taking me months to work through it, to the point that I’m hesitating on buying one until I’ve finished reading it.
Thanks for the answers. I too am having a bit of trouble navigating the manual as the index seems to miss a lot of subjects out (or is phrased differently to what I am used to).
I’m still having loads of fun learning this thing though.
Looks like the arranger is my next lesson topic.
Yes, as some already mentioned, this can be done with i e the Arranger. Got some other neat options in there as well, to mention a few:
Mute
Length (actually start/end position IIRC)
Repeat
Scene selections
Mute, will be affected of how you set the track/machine up (beware the possible confusion with i e loop sample setting ON/OFF).
Length, is pretty cool since you can use short phrases of anything (i e drums) from anywhere in the grid. Note to self: are different trig settings valid/non-valid? In any case: how can I use that to my advantage…
Repeat, pretty obvious I guess.
Scene selections, will also be affected of how you´ve set them up AND what you´re trying to acheive in the Arranger. Since scenes are ALWAYS related to your fader, if it is moved anytime and left somewhere else this may give you non-expected results (in regard to what you remember that you´ve programmed in the Arranger = confusion).
There are a few more I think, but abovementioned are stuff I´ve had lot of fun with. And there´s a few situations where they combined can be really powerful…

the index is worthless, I’ve wasted too much time looking for things there
most of the time I have to end up going through the whole manual to find it because the table of contents doesn’t mention what I’m looking for either
after a while, you get to know the manual so well that you start to know what area to look look in

i would suggest you to use the pdf.
so you can index the word you are searching for through the whole manual in a second
sadly, even searching the pdf isn’t truly robust - search for ‘playback’ - it finds the words in the index listing for p67 but not the actual mentions of ‘playback’ on page 67 - for me anyway - i’ve found other occasions where pdf searches drew puzzling blanks, but the content was in there - just not properly searchable !!
probably a stupid question but is there a way to have multiple arrangements?
so like, “intro” arrangement, “outro” arrangement, and whatever number of others.
I love using the arranger to connect a number of patterns together, but it would be even nicer if I could group multiple of these.
thanks

You can have 8 arrangements per Project, also there is the Chain function.
sorry avantronica, but my pdf brings me a list of pages where the word “playback” appears in the whole file, included p.67
Im on a mac wit preview application and i have a side panel where the pages get listed when searching
ah nice, totally missed/skipped over that in the manual…gonna have to check that out!
thanks

yep, sorry, TOTALLY my bad ! doh !
- i was thinking that when it highlighted on p68 it also highlighted every other occurrence, so i scrolled up a page, and it wasn’t highlighted - i also manually went through the sidebar entries but must have missed p67 - oops - anyway - i have had issues searching other pdfs - it’s also my preferred means to look through the manual
PLUS - I’ve just realised that you can improve your search for LEN say, by searching for " LEN " (spaces either side) - that helps narrow the hits, so you don’t get length, filename, silence etc - but you loose LEN. presumably !

oooh kraaaaissssht!!
thnks!!!
SPACES EITHER SIDE…this is how i want it to work!! =)
Depends on your PDF reader how it behaves with searches. On my Mac, Preview is a bit rubbish as a reader, have to say!! You can always download a new one from Adobe, if you can be bothered:)
Sorry to butt in but Goodreader on iphone is my manual pdf reader of choice, easy since I can read in the toilet at work! Great search function and tools, check it if you have an iphone…
I believe pg. 108 in the pdf is what your looking for or “The Arranger”
It seems that you would be able to link up and entire song or even a live set like this. Up to 256 patterns in 8 possible arrangements.
Although
“CHAIN
Will make the arrangement selected in this menu start play immediately after the currently playing arrangement has finished playing. It has a similar function to pattern chaining, with the exception that no more than one arrangement at a time can be chained. The chained arrangement will be visible in the default arrangement screen, located after the last row of the currently active arrangement.”
This chain limitation is huge if you plan on using it live.
Or is there a way to get around this, I do not have an OT in front of me but I’m pretty keen on getting one after I read the manual.
Pretty well done the manual and id have to say it is a little dry and somewhat of a roundabout in places, but well worth the read.
