Pasting overlapping samples in the editor

Hey,

I just played around a little bit with my Octatrack and was curious about what is possible when using the internal sample editor.

I saw it as a kind of “challenge” to see how far I would come by using only the Octatrack without a computer to prepare samples with. My plan was to copy & paste a sample from one flex machine to another, creating a sample slot with one two chained samples in it. (In my case, I wanted to store a longer sample to slice it up later).

When trying to paste the sample I had in the “clipboard”, I noticed that nothing happened … so I took a look into the manual which told me, that I can only replace regions of the sample that is already loaded into the flex machine, so … marking an area and then choosing “paste”, telling me that I can not “append” new sample information (no overlapping, how it is called in the manual) wtf! How do you guys work around this? Is there a way to “insert silence” somehow and then overwrite it with the stuff I wanted to paste in the first place? This is quite disappointing to be honest. I have lots of RAM free in the machine, am I just using it the wrong way? Please let me see your solutions!!

Best regards,
boland

I’ve made a snare drum chain.
First record a silent sample that is long enough, then copy and paste onto it.
Worked fine !

This is great, thank you!
