doesn’t sound right, can you test the mute e.g. by midi command to rule out a weird soft glitch (very unlikely), also make sure midi is disconnected when testing basic hardware errors like yours, sounds like an assembly issue maybe, have you given them a good tap, and tried a midi monitor to see if they are both sending out when touching one
