Anyone sequencing the Razzmatazz with their Oxi One? Im
Seriously considering these two as my travel setup…love to hear any experiences, tips etc
I’m a big fan of the Razz for sound design.
I don’t sequence it from an Oxi One but from a M8 - when I don’t let it sequence itself (the sequence overview of the Razz proving surprisingly useful for me).
I never owned the Oxi One, but there is one thing to note with the Razz: you cannot really control the Mutes from an external sequencer. Which is annoying.
What you can do, though, is assign a MIDI note to the general Volume of each pad (using MIDI Learn on the Razz). But then the volume toggles between zero and a fixed value (like 100 out of 127 or something).
So if you designed your kit with various volume values for each pad (which is my case) the non-zero value will not necessarily be the one you set. It will be 100. Period.
A workaround is to use the volume of the 3 layers (2 synths + 1 sample). But you have to plan ahead while designing your pads if you want to be able to sequence mutes from an external sequencer.
(Not sure how much sense all of this makes…)
Yeah i hear what your saying man and thanks for that info dude!
So i onow with the rytm if you mute the tracks on the rytm it will stlill make sound but then if you mute on oxi it will mute not sure if this is a kind of possible midi mute hack that will transfer.
Love the Razzmatazz tho looks so deep i think the oxi will seriously level it up!
Hey man,
Does the Razz come with any pre sliced samples eg an Amen or breaks?
Is there an online resource for these slice marked files?
This I have no clue, I only use samples I make myself, and I have never dug too much into sliced samples (although I tried a couple of times and it worked)
But I’m pretty sure factory content includes sliced samples.
Yes the factory content also includes some sliced samples. One other thing to be aware of is that it is not possible to play any pad chromatically. Each pad only reacts to a specific midi note. So I guess the Oxi will be a bit of overkill for the Razzmatazz.
Ok good to onow …is this something that could change with a firmware update? Or is it impossible ?
I wouldn’t expect too much from firmware updates. They don’t come often for the Razz.
It’s true they released an important one some time ago, but it failed to address major requests.
Playing pads chromatically would be great, but I’m afraid it would overlap with the Tangerine’s feature set - which they probably don’t want. Pity.
This being said, I have no insight whatsoever so I might be totally wrong
And the Razz is still good for what it is, I’d say.
As Omar said…. don’t expect too much. The wish list on their forum is long and most of the wishes are basic things that you would expect from a modern drum synth. There is a per step automation sequencer which can be routed to the pitch. But programming melodic stuff is really tedious to do on this tiny screen.
Nevertheless it is an amazing sounding device.
Yeah i mean the chromatic thing is a bit disapointing but my primary source is the RYTM so the Razz i got for jamming and traveling or out n about jams or even lazy sofa sessions lol .
What will be will be but theres a fair amount available on it in terms of cc control as i also use the midi twister fighter via the Oxi in midi thru powered mode .
Indeed.
I would recommend not sleeping on the Modulation Wheel (CC#1) as a modulation source. It’s available for almost every parameter - unlike MIDI learnt CC’s, that you can only assign to so-called macros.
Using the Modulation Wheel, you can basically build a version B of your kit, and morph into it using just a modwheel (or a knob with CC#1). It opens up new possibilties.
I will do and thsnkyou for your knowledge man looking forward to experimenting !
